The Roots performed at Numbers last night.

Amazing show, they proved why they are one of the few Hip-Hop acts worth paying to see.

    Did anyone else go?

I didn't, but I saw them perform live in a club on sixth st back in 95. The most unbelievable concert I've ever been to. I don't go to many rap or hip-hop concerts because for me, live music is the best thing about a concert, I don't need to see the guys in person if its going to sound just like the CD.

I saw a live gig of theirs on TV... they threw down. That is one funky band. Live instruments too, not just a DJ. I would've loved to see them, but Sunday nights are not good for me.

get this. my friend works as a valet at some hotel on 6th st. so he's working sat and says he's chillin and strikes up a converation w/ these two black guys. he talks to them for awhile and finds out it's ?uestlove and one other member of the roots (even though he has no idea who the roots are). so my friend must've pulled a number on these guys cuz low-and-behold, after they're done talking, they give him 4 VIP passes for the whole night!! my friend didn't even know who the roots were. so when my friend called to tell me this, i called him a b*stard and told him to go to hell (i'm really jealous if you can't tell).

oh yeah, my friend told me that the roots got on stage like an hour or so late because their lead singer got a little drunk and got lost wandering down 6th. funny stuff.

?uestlove is one of the most amazing musicians out there right now. Listen to the drumming from 3 minutes on of "You've Got Me". That's just sick.

I assume Cody ChesnuTT wasn't there to perform "The Seed" off of Phrenology, huh? That's a pretty disturbing song, and probably my favorite of 2002.

Oh, Cody Chestnutt was there, as was a rapper called Mad Skillz.

What's interesting is that the show sold out, and a lot of people were turned away. So I have to wonder if they'll perform at a larger venue next time, like Verizon Theater perhaps.
