Item: The Rockets won 55 games last year. That didn't show their true potential because:
    1. Yao was out 1/4 of the year.
    2. Rafer and Landry were hurt as well.
    3. Scola didn't start until after Christmas.
    4. They had a bad start - 12 wins, 15 losses before Christmas.

So I would argue that their true potential was easily 60 games.

We also know that Adelman teams don't show their true potential the first year - they usually gain 5 games after getting the system down the next year.

That puts us at 65 games in my book. Now add Artest and Barry to the mix. Granted, it gets harder to win more games now because you have to beat the great teams to get these wins. I'll say 3 more wins.

So I would put the injury-free Rockets potential at 68 wins. Artest and Barry actually add more protection to the downside potential - as in what happens when somebody gets hurt.

At any rate, I think we are going to kill teams next year - much like the Celtics and Patriots did last year. What do you think?

try to get that #1 seed please. that will make the first round opponent an easy one and homecourt throughout. we can win on the road so having homecourt will make it that much easier.

Well, it won't be easy easy. You saw last year, how close all the teams in the West were to each other. The #1 and #8 seeds could be easily seperated by 5-6 games again this year.

The main thing is to get HC advantage. That, I agree with you. But the Rockets shouldn't stress themselves out with trying for that #1 seed.

It would be awesome though! :)

60-65, not 65+. I sincerely hope i'm wrong though, 98-0 including the playoffs is what i hope for.

Man, looking at how hard getting 65+ wins would be makes you appreciate more the record of 72-10 set by MJ's bulls. Crazy stuff.

All I really care about though is the 'ship though. Get me that and I'll be happy. Sorta like the Celtics got embarrased the first couple series of the playoffs by lesser competition but at the end won it all. Winning solves all problems, it's the only thing people remember years down the line that matters.

Only 14 losses in the Western Conference is a massive goal. I'll be happy if our core is injury free. If that happens, we will be a very good team.

remember, we had a VERY VERY slow start, and compound that with injuries to tmac AND yao, with yao season-ending. then the landry's injury really slowed us down near the end of the year. so technically, if we were healthy completely (which is a prayer), 60+ wins was a given.

we still don't know how bynum can play with gasol given he won't see as many touches.

but the lakers are only our competition for homecourt. hopefully, we'll get it.

Get to the playoffs first, and then get out of the 1st round. Try to go as far you can after that. That's my wish. Regular season wins are obviously important but a 67 win like regular season record with a 1st round exit ala the Mavs won't help us either.

i can't imagine us losing to the warriors, blazers, nuggets, or clips, the main competitors for taht 8th seed.

remember, we need an easy opponent to really ge that monkey off of our backs. the confidence from a 1st round win will catapult us even further.

You have hit the nail on the head.We need an easy opponent to get that monkey off our backs. Getting a high seeding should help. I don't have any idea how many games we can win even with a healthy squad but they have got to get out of the 1st round.

I'm guessing lesser than 60. Keep in mind that no west team natched more than 58 wins and with the rise of portland this year, the competition will only get fiercer.

i picked 61 seemed like a good number considering we keep our injuries to a minimum!

Went with 60, I think that's an attainable goal.

    65 is getting up there.

To only lose 17 games would be unbelievable. Unless we were in the East...

Just too many great teams, with too many great who we will struggle to beat, especially on their homefloors and/or on back to backs.

There will also be the transitional period where the players are getting the feel of Artest and other new additions, and Artest is gelling with the existing guys.

Then there's also the whole injury issue. You would assume hat Mac and Yao are gonna miss some games at some stage - making us even more susceptible to losses.

I would be happy with 60 - and that should land us a 1st seed in the West as I don't see any other teams who are likely to win 61 - such a great spread of talented teams.

I don't think 65 games. That's too much in the west, I'm thinking ~60 games and 1st seed (hopefully). I also hope we get Portland since we've been owning them for a while, of course who knows how Oden does.

The 1st seed is the goal, itl'll put us against the worst competition in the playoffs, the Jazz likely in the 2nd round, then hopefully some team we play good against in the WCF, then the finals is likely the Celtics.

anyone predicting over 55 is crazy. our 22 win streak is largely responsible for our over 50 win. the west gets more stacked every year. you have to make big trades just to keep up.

Uh so, who says we cant have a crazy streak or two this year? The east still sucks, and the West still has a lot of teams we can beat.
