When it comes to free agency I don't think the problem is with the Rockets so much as it is Houston. This place just isn't that sexy to this generation of players. We have Bentley expectations with a Cadillac reputation, that's not entirely a bad thing, but it is what it is. Furthermore, if players like Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Deron Williams and Pau continue to **** on this city and it's fans its less likely that we will build through free agency. Nobody wants to be where nobody wants to be.

I was never in favor of tanking before, but if this is the crappy season that gets us higher in the draft I'll not be disappointed. It seems like the only way we're going to distance ourselves from mediocrity and thumb our collective noses at the h0es who didn't want to come here - for whatever reason.

Is it the city, or the Rockets?

Tell you what (and this will let you know NOT to say it's the city) :

Put 2004-05 T-Mac on this team...still think folks would be like "ehh, not signing there"?

It's not the city at all.

Also (speaking of T-Mac), remember what McGrady said when he was about to be dealt:

    Indiana, Phoenix, Houston.

I'd prefer using some hall of fame examples, Charles Barkley and even that punk Scottie Pippen came here.

it's murray. he's the methodical poker player. he'll go up a little, down a little, but never win the big pot because he's scared to get all his chips in.

we've been patient with him over the past three years but enough is enough, time to take a **** or get off the pot.

That was a different time. Back then there wasn't Facebook, Twitter or the lure of reality show notoriety to compete with. Miami, NY, LA and Brooklyn are social networking and media hotspots where players are in the national spotlight on and off the court. I just don't know how Houston can compete with that.

    FRUSTRATED.

i guess we have to get a superstar that don't want the spotlight to shine on them off the court?

Miami, NY, and LA are flat out better places to live if you're rich. In reality, we're in the same boat as every other dull metro. It's tough to compete against the celebrity capital, party capital, and media capital of America.

My idea halfway through the season was that with all the connections mctalky has around the league, he should have found a way to get Parsons into the olympic team. Who can resist his charm? Infiltrate the plastics and recruit.

Dallas is a major metro city and is looked on very favorably outside of this state. Houston is not.

On national news programs when they show the map of the USA they normally show one or two cities in each state, usually the capital + largest/most important city. When they show Texas on that map they show Austin/Dallas. If they show a 3rd it is usually San Antonio.

Houston has zero cache as a city.

In terms of gravitas, the cities are:

    Tier 1
    New York
    Los Angeles
    Boston
    Chicago

    Tier 2
    Miami
    Dallas

    Tier 3
    Atlanta
    Houston
    San Antonio
    Detroit

Lack of current talent coupled with today's feminine superstars. Nobody has the balls to build anything on there own anymore, they all want to play with someone else who can wipe their butts for them. Also, McHale (new obstacle) - I can guarantee you no NBA player wants to play for the guy.
