The Rockets should set up more plays for Shandon Anderson

I feel that the Houston Rockets should get Shandon Anderson envolved in more offensive plays. Shandon Anderson is a go-to guy who is capable of throwing in 20 points in a game and even 30 points. Shandon Anderson can drive to the hoop, layup, hit a jumper and he can knock down the three pointer. When Shandon Anderson led the Rockets in scoring they were 7-0. I think Shandon Anderson would average 16ppg 8rpg 6apg and 4 spg this season.

The good thing about having Shandon on your team is that you dont really need to run plays for him. Hes sort of like Pippen, how he just plays along with the flow of the game. Looking for holes in the offense, or just hustling and getting points. I know we have a few plays for Shandon already that really suit him pretty well. As far as his projected stats, I dont think he will do that well. Those are like hall-of-fame numbers. I could see him averaging more like 13ppg 6rpg 3apg and 1.75 spg this season though. Still pretty good all around numbers.

I also think that, because, he's not the greatest ball handler in the NBA, forcing the ball to him would result in more turnovers, as much as anything else.

Shandon does get easy points with his ability to cut to the basket and use the backdoor type plays.

However, I do not see him getting any more plays then last year with Francis and Mo on the court. It's going to be interesting to see how many ppg Francis and Mo are going to average.

Nevertheless, I still see Shandon dropping 20-30 pts on occasion. You are right, he does play a key role in the Rockets W's. Even when he doesn't score, he contributes significantly in other ways like making good defensive plays.

It is possible for Anderson to average 16 PPG and maybe 8 RPG, however when you factor in Francis, Mobley, and Taylor...all expected to average 16 PPG or more...it appears a bit doubtful that Anderson can put up those kinds of numbers. But he should have his occasional 20 and 30 pt. games just like last season. As for 4 SPG, no way. If Anderson averaged 4 SPG he would probably rank #1 in the NBA in that category, by a considerable margin. I would expect Anderson to average between 1.5 and 2 SPG.

DaneB is right; Anderson is the type of player who can be a factor without having a lot of plays run for him. But I wouldn't mind if Rudy T used Anderson in the post occasionally if he had a smaller player defending him.

How bout if we avoid the individual stats and worry about the Team's win total,

Take care of those turnovers, guys, and you'll be able to put up more shots each night. Now THERE is incentive!

Another avenue for increasing Shandon's impact is playing him down the stretch. More often than not last year, he was benched in favor of Mobley. Its a tough decision, and may have to depend on defensive match-ups, but he needs to play more minutes towrds the end of games. Cast your mind back to Anderson at the Jazz - he made his name making clutch plays late in the 4th.
