something thacabbage said in another thread got me to thinking. he was mentioning square pegs and round holes and such. anyway, I think a part of the Rockets' problem is that we've been too lucky. our good fortune has complicated any rational planning on our part. getting Francis was a big start. we had a young stud who could be a star to build around. then, we got Griffin. and that's all I have to say about that. no, really, he was a decent pseudo-big man, and we needed a big man. so we took him, but that's where I think we began to lose focus. then, of course, we had the season from hell, salvaged when we won the lottery and the rights to Yao Ming. the only problem with all of this is that we are a group of ill-fitting parts. I think perhaps the first stage of rebuilding is the Talent Accumulation stage. we're done with that. maybe the second stage of rebuilding is honing/refining/sculpting your raw talent into a team with vision. something that is supposed to look and act a certain way. we have not done this yet. I think we take our most ill-fitting parts [mobley and griffin, to join the cacophony of the majority] and move them for very particular kinds of players. maybe, on the face of things, the players we move them for won't be as "talented". but right now, I don't see us as a team with a plan. we've been a team with some good fortune, but it's time for us to have a plan.
chievous, I agree with you on everything except this: but right now, I don't see us as a team with a plan. we've been a team with some good fortune, but it's time for us to have a plan. I think that is the case with everyone on the Rockets except for Les. Reading his comments makes me think that he realizes we need a plan.
