The Rockets Network, or Hey Tim I haven't heard any news on the Rockets/Astros network in about a year. Is this still happening? If so, will at least the home games be broadcast in high definition? I'm considering purchasing a HD setup and this could go a long way in persuading me.
Some games are on the NBATV HD channel viewed through Dish Network. I am sure they will air more HD games this season. I just subscribed to the HD pakage a few months ago. Come on November hurry up and get here, already.
If I remember correctly, Fox is suing both the Rockets and Astros because they feel like the Astros can't leave until 2009. I know that Fox started a legal challenge to the new network and a judge has to decide if the Astros can leave before things get off the ground.
Correction -- the courts have already ruled that the Astros can leave their contract early. This happened a while back. Fox has stated that they most likely will appeal the ruling. In the meantime, both organizations are moving full speed ahead towards the launch of the network in Fall of '05, the start of the Rockets season after this coming one. Tim
I read in the paper that the Rockets are looking at other markets around Texas to distribute the channel - Corpus Christi was the one in the story, but I imagine places like San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Beaumont, Laredo and others would be on the list.
I hope it's available in Austin. Is the plan to show just road games? all games? all non-nationally televised games? Has any of that been decided?
The real question to us out-of-towners is, will the network be available to DirecTV and Dish Network owners? Tim, any idea about that? Thanks!
great news, but can you a dress my original question about HD? Both stadiums/arenas are state of the art and I imagine have the facilities for HD broadcasts, and this could be a huge selling point for customers.
I've been waiting for 2 years to see the Rockets in HD. I thought it would happen when Channel 51 went live with their HD feed, but the games are still transmitted in standard definition, which is better than cable, but still not High Definition. The Mavs and Knicks have been broadcasting Hi Def games for a couple of years now, and its about time the Rockets step up....
