I have been watching the playoffs this year, and I am REALLY impressed with the Dallas Mavericks.

They play basketball the way it SHOULD be played. They play smart, unselfish basketball and they are really going to be good for a long time.

The young Rockets particularly Cat and Francis need to watch what REAL winning basketball is about. It is not about celebrating a dunk or a showboating on the floor, it is about hustle and helping your teamates do WHATEVER it takes to win.

Dirk Nowitski is an AWESOME talent, and Steve Nash runs the PG EXACTLY like it should be run. Also, Finley is an amazing talent too.

I think they will be good for a LONG, LONG time. Hopefully we can catch them, but our young guys have a TON of growing up to do before we get there.

The Rockets could learn a lot from the Mavs:

1)How to suck for an entire decade.
2)How to get enough lottery picks so that due to the law of averages, you end up with some pretty good players.
3)How to accumulate some good talent, but have to trade it away after it falls apart because of a fight over an R&B singer.
    4) Get a fanatic billionaire to buy the team so that you can afford to pay the enormous payroll(and then some) the above entails.

Top 5 things the Rockets should learn from the Mavericks:

    5) The way to implement a complete waste of a center is surround him with talent so no one notices he sucks.
    4) Hire Lenny Wilkens, George Karl, Pat Riley and Rick Adelman as assistant coaches. Phil Jackson as towel boy.
    3) Give over $100 million to a member of Michigan's Fab Five.
    2) Hold a "Les Alexander attacks Jerry Sloan" night. For the fans.
    1) Drafting foreigners? Good. Drafting foreigners from Turkey? Bad.

btw DaDakota, did you like Nash before or after his shots early in the clock fell? It's probably also bad form to compare the Rockets to the Mavericks, because only 2 or 3 people on the Mavs speak english... so it'd probably be hard to showboat.

Nowitzki: Veder hausen iben steiben beee-yotch!
    Nash: eh, monsieur?
Bradley: I fetching blocked that suckhole.
Najera: Ta'gusta dormir c'amigo esta noches?
    Wang: Yao zee pow pow.

But I'm sure that the Rockets will keep everything in mind though if they get an opportunity to trade Anderson for Nowitzki, Cato for Bradley or Mobley for Finley.

Oh yeah, you do know that the Mavericks are technically a 1000x better on paper than the Rockets... don't you you darkside b*stard?

Did Finley ever sign an extension this year or will he be a free agent? He'll probably wanna stick around in Dallas, but it wouldn't hurt to ask, right?

Bradley averages 7.4 rebs/game in 24 mins/game. Heck, he even throws in 7+ pts/game on a team that's loaded with offensive firepower.

I wish our stiff-center-of-the-future put up those numbers. [IMG]

I've watched Bradley play recently and he's not the complete stiff people make him out to be. He's 7'6", so of course he's not going to be graceful and a gazzelle out there. I wouldn't mind having the semi-stiff on the Rockets.

    I agree with pueldfor..

the mavs have always sucked and this year is no different..granted they made it into the playoffs..big deal..

the rockets made the playoffs something like 8 years in a row..

the rockets will surpass the mavs by next year and I am totally not worried about them whatsoever..remember they are the mavs..

the team i would be most worried about it LA..as long as Shaq and Kobe are on the same team we will have to get past them and thats a team that if they can stay intact will be around for years and years and years...

The Mavericks did suck for a decade, sirhangover, but to think that team will do anything next year but improve is ridiculous. They have a great nucleus of players in their prime and coming into their prime. I love watching that team play, unless it is them beating the Rockets. [IMG]

WATCH HIM MORE! [IMG] I had the luxury of watching him all year, and he is horrible in the middle. He has come up with some good boards and blocks in the playoffs, true.

It's just truly frustrating to see him constantly get the ball stripped becasue he brings it down to his waist. He gets thrown around and just looks like a deer lost in the headlights.

The title reminds me of that auto safety commercial slogan: "You can learn alot from a dummy."

The Mavs have made some smart draft picks and especially some smart trades lately (Nash, Nowitzki). But the decade of making stupid decisions before making a few good ones leads to the conclusion that it might have been blind luck. That and Don Nelson's equally pathetic history of stupid trades.

I hate to say it, but I can't resist [IMG] .

Doesn't Dirk look a lot like a certain #33 who played in Boston.

Now before the bashing begins, I'm not trying to call him the next #33, I think he's the next Dirk Nowitski. [IMG]

But the similarities are obvious, similar game, similar range.

I guess most of you missed my overall point about the WAY they play the game with class and dignity, and not as a showboating team.

Rockets are a showboating team with a classy owner, while the Mavs are a classy team with a showbaoting owner.

    Ironic, no?

As for Nash, I liked him in College, and now he is really finding his groove in the NBA.

I just like the way he hustles...all the time. I think our team could take some lessons from the way they play the game.

As for the History, BAH !!! That is old news....all I know is that the Mavs fans are watching thier team in the big dance, and we Rocket fans are too bitter to even comment on a real comparison.

class . . Dignity yadda yadda yadda
elist words that are just bothersome

    I like EMOTION
    I like FIRE
    Hell . . . U prefer to lose graciously
    or Win pumping ya fist!!

    I want them to win
I want them to be EXCITING
I want them to be wild if they like

BY THE WAY . . .Dirk Jumped on the Desk after
the three at half. . . on his way to the hallway
was that classless? or was he just trying to
get through without going all the way around

I hate when people use terms like Class etc
because it is IMO BS . . .
If I wanted something emotionless I'd watch the
    NFL . . . .or play CYBERBALL

    Rocket River
Class - emotionless, stoic, boring stiff BS

BTW your CLASS Mavs have been b*tching about Refs all series long . . . . just like our CLASS LESS Rockets do . .. but wait I guess they do it the *proper* way

Yeah, I agree with you. The best thing about the Mavs (when they are playing well, mind you) is that they play together as a team. They know there's a system & a strategy, and when they follow it, they do pretty well.

I don't think the Mavs will fizzle anytime soon. I think they're a legit playoff-caliber team who could beat anyone on any given day. Freakin' Wang's gonna be great! Did you guys see him drain that 3 last night? Nothin' but net. Then he's trying crossover moves ... geez, someone tell this guy he's supposed to be the center, PLEASE! :)

Maybe figuring out how to come back from 0-2 even though your starters only have 11 total games of playoff experience.
