I think that the Rockets need to keep Kelvin Cato. Think about it, who else is as athletic as Cato? Not many players. I think he has a lot of potential, and will always be a defense first type player. In order to succeed in the west, we need someone like Cato, who can at least contain Shaq. Getting rid of Cato, would just put us in a hole. Remember earlier this year, when he blocked Shaq twice in that game we beat the Lakers on NBC? I think the Rockets need a awesome power foward like miles or moiso. Once we get that in the draft this year, all we need is to look for is a back up for Cato, a center who is offensive minded (Olajuwon will be leaving after next year). Once we get this, and things gell together, we will have a real chance at a championship!

    AirFrAnCiS3,

I also would like to give Cato a chance to develop, but I think that a lot of posters on this bbs think that he is an overpaid underachiever. Most Cato supporters love to bring up the fact that Cato blocked Shaq twice in one game, but omit the fact that Shaq still went off for 27 pts and 19 rebounds. Compare this to Cato's 8 pts, 2 rebounds and 4 blocks in the same game.

Cato hasn't shown much ability to rebound or consistently score this year and is being paid about $6 mil/year. This doesn't sit well with many fans.

My personal opinion is that we should only trade him if we can get a starting caliber center in return; otherwise, we should give him another year to develop. I've seen a lot of people in other posts suggesting trades that will bring us SFs or higher draft picks, but fail to justify a starting center assuming that Dream doesn't recover from his health problems.

I think we should definitely keep Cato because he fits our team very well. I'm sure after an offseason of lots of hard work, he will be ready to take on the coming year. If he can get himself to perform the way that Theo Ratliff does, which is definitely capable of doing, then I will be happy.
