"The Ring" WITH SPOILERS!

The opening scene with the two teenage girls made me think the movie would be a teenie boop movie, so I might have been prejudice through the rest of the movie. Who or what created the original videotape? Does the distortion of the faces have any special meaning? I thought the ending was a bite silly, I mean making a copy of the tape would prevent your death? I actually felt some compassion for the little girl; she looked really cute and did not think of her representing evil or anything.

I also thought Aidan was a little to close to the character in 6th Sense. So did he have any psychic/mental abilities or not? I felt the movie would have flowed a lot better without the boy, and if the main character was single.

Anyhow the movie was pretty disturbing, I can’t begin to image being in the well for seven days in complete darkness.

 

OK i have no answers, only more questions.

A. the first girl who died, why was her face, lets just say, slightly messed up. i mean her mom said the doctors didn't know what killed her and mentioned her heart just stopping, so what the hell was up with her face (and i assume noah's face was the same?). also, apparently it's a lot better to be driving when your week is up and die in a crash than to be at home and have people crawl out of the tv at you.

B. so is the little girl just pure evil or something?? i mean the doctor on the hospital video says i know you don't mean to hurt people and then she says, "but i do" like she's just plain evil. i mean she messes with her mom, then she gets killed and starts messing with other people and then when you help her that's also a bad thing (kinda like when that old dude subs for lisa's class on the simpsons and everything gets you a paddlin). and where the hell did she come from, her mom just got her (did she kill her real mom cuz they said something about "complications" for her real family i think).

C. about making the copy, do you have to figure it out for yourself or it doesn't work or can you just tell people, hey watch this and make a copy. and what if you're like me and procrastinate and wait 6 days and 23 hours to make a copy and then the copy machine breaks, can you just tell the little girl hey i was getting around to it?

D. umm why the hell did the first girl joke around about the tape?? she's pretends to have seen it, then pretends to die, then admits she really did see it and starts getting scared ****less of everything after that.

E. was her friend (becca i think) in the room when she walked in or did becca just go crazy after she found her friend kind of dead.

F. when aidan was watching the video, the girl started to come out of the well right when his mom interrupted, the video had never gotten that far before, what was up with that.

that's all i can think of now, i'm stupid when it comes to movies so someone please enlighten me.

 

When the girl was asked how she created the drawings/pictures, she said she just thought them and they were there. I would assume that is what happened with the tape. The room where the tape was played was also right over the well where she was buried.

I can't figure that one out either. I noticed that the girl was coming out from the well while he was watching, but we don't know if he came out when Noah was watching. Assuming Noah saw the girl also, maybe whomever saw her coming out was "tagged" to die. ???

What were the implications of them finding the dead child? "You weren't supposed to help her" What was the difference? She was killing anyways...

 

yeah i didn't quite understand that. so she's killing people but if you help her she'll be killing people. so who cares. of course most of these questions actually probably made the movie better for me, especially her almost coming out while aidan was watching. also, why was she older when she came out of the tv, was she supposed to have aged or something, and if so, why. why wasn't she just still the little girl.

 

Bad ass ****ing movie.

Naomi Watts didn't exactly help the girl. What she was doing was what reporters do. Remember what the dad said? They even did a flashback to it? "You guys just take someone's misery and spread it to the world." Well, that's what Naoimi did. Pretty simple, if you ask me. I guess the fact that she "spread the video" sort to speak, saved her.


The little girl was inherently evil or insane. She even said "i can't help it." She wants to spread her hurt to the world.


did Noah's assistant play a part? Remember when Noah was killed? Was she heading up to Noah's apartment or was she the human version of the little girl? She seemed to be wearing the same nightgown. Or, was the little girl in disguise.

I don't know this, but I think the parents of the little girl ****ed her over as well.

 

The movie was designed with a sequel and prequel in mind...there's where we'll get more answers...I hate waiting.

I didn't think it was scary AT ALL. Plus, the reasoning behind why the reporter didn't die seemed a little shaky. She did a lot of things that the others didn't. She saw the lighthouse off the edge of the tape. She went down in the well. She got the burn on her arm. She talked to the girls father. Why did she assume making a copy saved her? Also, the girl comes out of the tv to kill you, so how in the heck did the other kids get in a car accident? What if you lived in a house without a tv, or were locked in a mental hospital, how would you die then? The whole thing seemed stupid to me. How about breaking the screen when you see the girl coming? Crappy movie, I thought Signs was better and scarier.

 

Well, I don't think even the girl could make someone watch tv if they happen to be driving while their time is up.

Naomi got a reprieve because "she's gonna spread the girl's misery." Remember what the little boy said? "what are we gonna tell the people that we give the video to" or something like that.

Also, the kid also had the hand print on his arm. Just because Noah didn't get it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

 

If she survived because she made the copy, it seems that she would've been spared all the other stuff.

 

Good point. Or maybe something happened in that well? I don't know. Maybe the little boy won't get a reprieve?


BTW, Noah's assistant was at the elevator when Naomi Watts ran down. Is there any significance to that? I think that girl looked like an older version of the little girl.

 

I thought that would've made more sense-she survived because she sees what the girl went through.

 

Come on, man. These kids were obviously rich.

Yeah, I think I agree. Remember in the cabin when the screws started coming out? This spawn-of-the-devil girl, or whatever the hell she was, could definitely do more than just come out of TV's. The only reason I think television played such a large role has something to do with the TV being the only thing she had in her room in the barn.

 

So, she was indeed, just evil, right? What about the mother? There was something ominous about her.

 

I'm pretty sure she was created from something evil. It was obvious she wasn't conceived by normal means. Anyone see Rosemary's Baby?

Do you have an opinion on the relevance of Noah's assistant at the elevator when Naomi headed downstairs? She seemed to be wearing the same pajamas that the little girl was wearing.

 

Yeah, so why did that stuff at the cabin even happen if she was already spared?

The more I think about the movie, the dumber I think it is.

 

I missed that. I just took it as Naomi Watts character not wanting to be seen coming down from his apartment, so she hid. If she is wearing the same clothes, that's pretty interesting. And I got no clue.
