The best band of the 80s. From hardradio.com: THE CULT's forthcoming CD will be titled Born Into This. Born Into This is currently being recorded in London with producer Youth (VERVE, PRIMAL SCREAM), and will be released in conjunction with The Cult's imprint label, New Wilderness, this September. In the meantime, The Cult, led by founding members vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, will embark on a series of European arena shows with rock legends THE WHO starting June 5th. The band will be adding headline dates and festival appearances along the route, building on the overwhelming reaction to their 2006 sell-out world tour. A U.S. headline tour will follow in the fall. Here they are with Jim Morrison on lead vox:
I saw them when they came to Austin late last year at La Zona Rosa -- they were great. Played a bunch of old songs and some rare stuff -->
This news made my ****ing night. Awesome. I still remember the Sonic Temple tour back in '89 at the Summit. What a righteous night. Even got kicked outa school the next day for wearing their T-Shirt, which the principal considered satanic. What a dube.
More from hardradio.com: Roadrunner Records has confirmed that THE CULT's new single, 'Dirty Little Rock Star', is scheduled for August 13th. The Cult will release their new album, their first new studio album since 2001, entitled Born Into This in conjunction with The Cult's imprint label, New Wilderness, this September. Born Into This is currently being recorded in London with producer Youth (VERVE, PRIMAL SCREAM).
That songs sounds a little similiar to Powerman 5000's When Worlds Collide. Anyhow, their sound is still their later AC/DC sound, which I'm partial to.
Ha! He does look like Morrison. But BEST band of the 80s? Not even the 50th best. But good news regardless.
I don't think so. If I remember correctly, there were (I think) two or three opening bands, one of which was Bonham (a band that had John Bohnham's son, Jason, in it. They played Zeppelin's "Black Dog" )
Last week, I finally added the 3 cult albums I own to my iPod in "Love", "Sonic Temple", and "Electric". I used to have the self-titled album but didn't think it was that good. IMO, they dropped off in quality after "Sonic Temple"; still it would be sweet to see them live and do songs like "She Sells Sanctuary", "Love Removal Machine", "Lil Devil", "Fire Woman", etc.
Probably a different tour...(the one I am thinking about). I was about 15, so it must have been around 91-92
