There have been more movies about the soviet union in the past 50 years, but I want to know if there where any movies based on Red China or the kids who were loyal to Mao rampaging through China.

    Dr. Bethune (1990)
Donald Sutherland turns in a towering performance as Dr. Norman Bethune, the Canadian expatriate who worked with the Loyalists during the Spanish Civil War and served under Chairman Mao during China's fight against Fascism.

Helen Mirren and Helen Shaver also star in this stirring true story. 115 min.
Category: Historical & War Director: Phillip Borsos
Cast: Anouk Aimee, Colm Feore, James Hong, Helen Mirren, Helen Shaver, Donald Sutherland

Well I can't think of any movies but there is a GREAT book that covers the Cultural Revolution. Its Son of the Revolution by Liang Heng. It's an autobiographical account of his life growing up during the Cultural Revolution. An amazing read and I would imagine better than any movie on this subject.

Well there was that episode of Star Trek: DS9 where the Federation had an elite group of teenage soldiers called Red Squad. Dunno if that was inspired by what you are talking about or not though.

Try To Live, its directed by Zhang Yimou. It starts in the 40s and goes through China's conversion to communism, might not be what you're looking for specifically, but it is a rather interesting film on a significant portion of Chinese history.
