We are just good enough at everywhere on the team that it is very hard to upgrade.

Coach - Everyone wants to fire Adelman, but the reality is that there is no coach out there that is better than adelman that is available.

C - There is no one that we can get that is better than 50% Yao

PF - The only better PFs than scola are all-star caliber big men which we can't get

SF - This is the only possible upgrade on the team, yet if we get someone who is more offensively minded, the entire rotation has to change because PF, SG, and PG are defensive liabilities

SG - the only better SGs are Franchise type players

PG - the only better PGs are all-star type players

Bench - I think we do have one of the better benches in the league, in fact our bench is probably closer in talent to our starters than most other teams in the league.

Conclusion: The only way to upgrade is to get All-Star level talent, and those trades are just not available very often in the NBA. If you are lucky, maybe one player will be available per year.

All-stars moved in the past 5 years.

    KG to Boston
    Pau to Lakers
    Jkidd to Dallas
    Iverson to Nuggets
    Billups to denver

    We are pretty much stuck.

Honestly, it might be best to ride out the season painfully and get a top 5 pick.

That looks like the only way we can possibly acquire a star at this point.

We are a good team the problem is the coach doesnt know how to make normal substitutions/rotations. I still believe in this team. Adelman needs to shape up or be shipped out

So you're saying the reason we're stuck at sucking is because we're stuck?

It's T-mac's fault we suck, he should have forced a trade years ago so we could have drafted wall or rose by now.

Um, what about this past summer: James, Bosh, Stoudemire?

But I agree with your general point. If you are not one of the major market teams (Lakers, NY, Miami), then luck is the most important thing in getting a superstar player. And luck is what the Rockets haven't had for a long time.

I have said many times: while we have Battier and Hayes playing big minutes, this team will suck.
It is time to move on and give a chance to new players and see what they can offer. We already know Battier and Hayes won't improve from what they have already done.

It's been said many times, but this team is like an engine that's missing its sparkplugs. All the players are complementary pieces that need a real offensive threat to get them going, someone who can create his own shot and consistently demand double teams.

Martin and Budinger are our only offensive players on the perimeter, and both are better at playing off-the-ball. They still need someone to initiate the offense. Factor in Budinger's slump to the equation and the picture gets even grimmer.

By default or desperation, Adelman has had to rely on Miller to become a perimeter threat. I know Miller's a good shooter, but I doubt Adelman planned on using him as the second perimeter option this much.

This leaves Scola to fend for himself down in the low post. He's good but not good enough to be the only low-post option. (Jordan Hill is still too raw to consistently contribute.)

So these four players are pretty much the only guys who can give the team any real offense. Everyone else will add a few points here and there, but cannot be relied on to do so on a consistent basis.

Given how the roster is configured with Yao and Brooks out, I can't really blame Adelman for the losing record.

I am okay with a coaching change but we are not a good team. ANyone who thinks otherwise doesn't have a clue about talent. Our best defensive player is a slow (by NBA standards) unathletic SF. Our best offensive player is a slow unathletic PF. We have no 4th quarter go to guy. Martin is one of the best pure shooters in the game but tHe league knows if you play Martin tight late in the game and force him to drive he has a hard time scoring. They are not even falling for his force fouls as much.

Scola depends on the wackiest shots to score. he is amazing how he gets them off but he is not the goto type of player Landry was last year. AB was our best goto guy at the end of the season and he is out. Lowry sucks on offense. Bud looks worst than Battoer on offense as of late (that is pretty pathetic). Ish can't shoot. Lee is almost as bad. Hayes sucks on offense and Hayes is a short PF. We do not have one shot blocker unless you consider Hill but he is inconsistent and has lapses brain freeze which makes him inconsistent. Our 6th pick in the draft is in RIo Grande and Miller should probably retire after this contract.

We lose because we suck plain and simple. The team is playiing hard but we do not have the unstoppable Chris paul or Kobe Bryant or anyone. We have a bunch of mostly overachiever who get the most out of their God given talent.

Perfect coaching might make a little difference in wins but the bottom line is we have less talent than the opposition. I would rather have a young inexperienced athletic team then what we have now. We look old and play old.

I think Adelman is a good coach. Not great but good. But sometimes a team just needs a change even if it is just change for the sake of change. But don't blame him for this teams record. We surprised a lot of people with our hard play last year. Now this teams hard play is not enough. Especially after losing Ariza and replacing Hayes with Miller and having AB out. Yao is a work in progress and we didn't him last year so I won't include him.

I would like to see Adelman with Yao and Ab back to really see what this team can do. But if the owner doesn't agree and wants to make a change I would like to see them make Battier a player coach and groom him for the job. Especially if we continue to suck and get to deep in a hole.

Do you really think the team is playing hard on defense? I haven't seen the effort on that end. Poor close-outs and lackadaisical approach to most all aspects of defense. I think this is why the Rockets are so bad.

If they tried on defense like last year, I think they'd be around 0.500 instead of 7 games under.

This may explain some of the substitution patterns we're seeing. We don't want it to look so obvious (like SA for Duncan or us for Akeem) so we are doing it in a more subtle way.
