Ok, I decided to start a new thread for this because the oldone was a little played out and I was too lazy to search back for it. I have had my PSP for about a month now, and I am still playing the crap out of it. I have been playing Ridge Racer and NFL Street all the time. I also have Untold Legends but I haven't hardly touched it, not because I don't like it but because I have enjoyed the other 2 so much I haven't wanted to put them down. After a month of play and being ablke to reflect on my purchase I have decided that this is the gaming platform that fits me the best. With my other consoles I found that I rarely had time to fire them up and play a game. My available gaming time comes in irregular intervals and isn't always in huge blocks of time. The PSP is perfect for that. I can fire it up and play a quick game of Street or go through a quick race on RR. Usually I can get a game or two in before I have to put it down or before I get interrupted. The latter actually leads me to one of the best things I like about the PSP. You can just turn it off when you want. That feature alone has saved me tons a of headaches or lost games. You just turn it off, then when you are ready to play again, turn it back on and you are right where you left off. Awesome! A lot of my playing time comes at lunch. I will pop it out while sitting in my room and play a game or two. I bought a nice little USB cable from Wal-Mart. I am not sure if all the cables have this (THe one I got was the only one they had) but it has a way to use the USB connection to charge your battery. I plug it in while in class then when I get through I have a newly charged battery. Anybody else have any good game or accessory suggestions? I am thinking of picking up NBA Street soon. I will also eventually get Lumines but that probably won't happen until summer vacation. Edit: I am working on a converting a copy of the Dunk on the Stick from Monday's game. If anyon eis intersted let me know and I'll stick it up on my space.
I've kinda slowed down on my play...I've been waiting for my 1GB Memory Stick to come in. Tiger Woods is a great game, I highly recommend it. The graphics are great and it really doesn't get old. Lately I've been trying to figure out how to mount the PSP in my car for MP3's and movies. I got the mount in and it works great. I bought this thing called PSP Dock It. I have a slot right above my HU that I put velcro into and then on the mount. It sticks great. The only thing I have an issue with right now is sound. I can use one of those wireless FM Mod, but I'd like not to. My head unit has an AUX input, but I have my Sirius radio plugged into it, so I've had the idea to add some type of AUX switch so I can plug both into my HU and get sound. If anybody knows where I can find one of these it would be great. I also bought a case and a martian fields screen protector that doesn't even looks like it's there. It just seems that there aren't as many games comming out as I would have hoped. I'm waiting on MVP baseball, but it got pushed back another 3 weeks, and I'd like to see a game like SOCOM come out soon.
I'm waiting for NBA Street and the GTA (Which looks like July now). I have Lumines, Twisted Metal and Wipeout Pure. I like Twisted Metal because you can play on infastrutcure mode anywhere there is a wireless connection, which means you always have several hundred opponents. I hadn't played any Wipeout games before so I really like it. It's like a souped up Mario Kart, and the web hack is a fun party trick. I'd love a copy of the dunk. I have T-mac's miracle and Yao's crossover currently on my mem stick, along with the PSP Southpark and Chappelle "Rick James" episode. I got a bunch of anime off a psp tracker that I haven't taken a look at yet. I've had a broken foot and elbow surgery in the last few months, so I spend ALOT of time in waiting rooms for follow up visits. That's where I find the psp to be most rewarding. Playboy has done a release for PSP like they did for Ipod a few months ago too. http://www.playboy.com/features/features/psp/85693.html
It isn't to odificult. What are you trying to d/l? I thought I had emailed you about that at one point. Hit me at my bbs mail and let me know what you need help with. I can probably talk you through it. Edit: I did email you and I still have a copy of it. If you didn't get it then email me through the bbs and I'll send it to you again.
I've slowed down my PSP use a little bit since the first couple of weeks, but not really by choice. The perfect times to play it would be at school when I have nothing to do, but my school wouldn't allow that. When I'm at home, I find myself doing something that takes me away from the PSP. I'll doubt I'll play it at all the days that the Rockets play. Since the last PSP thread, I pretty much finished Ridge Racer for the most part, and played a little bit more of each of the other games I had (MGA, Wipeout, Untold Legends). I also found myself liking the MP3 function of the device, although this is my 1st MP3 player, so I may just like the idea of a MP3 player. I can probably cram about an hour of music on my 32 MB memory stick (thank you ATRAC conversion software), which is fine with me. I'll probably want to upgrade later in the year, but only when the prices fall. I hope they have some of those ~$100 for 1GB deals like Dell did later on in the year; I wanted to do that deal, but was a little bit of bad timing for me. I probably should have just gotten some anyways and sold some on eBay or something like that. I thought I read that they were selling those things for $200-$300 over in Japan. One bad thing is the little span here where no new games have been released. The next great wave of games, IIRC, probably won't hit until late-May early June. I'm really dying for a Japanese RPG, such as the Ys game, but that may take a little while IIRC. At least we don't live in Europe; they can't even buy a PSP until September. One thing that has surprised me is the sale of the UMD movies. I don't have the article handy, but there was an article that mentioned several retailers selling the movies at higher-than-expected rates, forcing them to place an order for more movies. I really didn't think they'd be this popular, especially at this time when they seem pretty basic (extras don't quite compare to DVDs) and also cost about as much as a DVD. Since the launch, some more studio support has been given, although I can't remember exactly what movies were announced. I know one of the studios did promise to start putting more into the UMDs, making them similar to DVDs in the amount of extras. More extras + Lower Price = GOOD. Also, a studio in Japan is only selling the UMD in a pack with the DVD version, something I expected some studios to do in order to help the sales of UMDs. IIRC, the price of the pack wasn't too bad, although it should still be a little lower IMO. edit: Oh yeah, forgot about this : A little excerpt from the following CNN article: http://money.cnn.com/2005/04/27/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/index.htm
I bought the PSP for the same reason as most of you, I don't have time to play games at home and I like the convienece of playing/using it anywhere. I play my PSP mostly at work during my break and lunch hours, or if I'm forced to watch a boring movie at my g/f house I could just play a game to occupy myself. The games I have are Lumines and Wipeout Pure and to be honest, this is enough for me for a while. Lumines will eat up most of your time and its hard to put it down, its an additive tetris type of puzzel game. Wipeout pure is a great futuristic racing game that has a ton of play mode and it comes with a browser feature provided that you have a wireless router. The system is not perfect though and has a couple defects/issues that needs to be recalled on later PSP. One is the dead/stuck pixels that some people are getting including myself...luckly, I only have one stuck pixels that is hard to see. The other thing is that you can't customize your own background but I'm sure a firmware update would addresse this problem. Overall, I think its great and it will only get better with time knowing how versatile this little thing is. A true web browser, a camera and a GPS system will be made available in the near future and I'm looking forward to that.
My PSP is loving my 1GB memory stick pro duo. Few episodes of CSI, a certain episode of Family Guy, and half an episode of Speed racer ( http://psp.connect.com/ ) Lots of music, lots of pics...woo.
Here is the dunk. http://users2.ev1.net/~chkemp/dunk.zip You'll need to unzip it and put both files in your movie folder.
Did you do the CSI and family guy episodes yourself? If so did you rip the video from a tv source or download it from the net?
thanks. http://www.pspcrazy.com/pspvideodirectdownloads.htm there is one family guy episode on this page and also the psp southpark.
I want one I want one I want one I want one !!!! But I asked my wife to get it for my birthday, and that's in Sept. Hopefully the price will go down a bit by then....
To be fair to Sony, I'm pretty sure that almost all LCD manufacturers have problems with making screens without any pixel problems, so I'm not sure exactly how much Sony is to blame for a few dead/stuck pixels. Now, by a few, I do mean between maybe 1-3; those PSP's that have like 5+ dead/stuck pixels do seem to be "defective" IMO. Of course, I haven't had any pixel problems, so I don't know how it feels. And right after I post that... I also saw this list of UMD movies at another site that seems pretty useful now:
The answer to your question is yes..but it must be in MPEG 4 format. There are certian files you must create on your Memory Stick for the PSP to be able to read it. Here's an article on how to convert your DVDs to the memory stick fromat. Of course you must also have memory stick big enough to hold the movie. When converted a 2 hour movie will probably take up 300-500 mb.
man i really cant figure this crap out, someone please help email me at mi71323@tmo.blackberry.net I cant get files into my PSP. I've tried everything, im frustrated
