Is it still worth protecting your family by driving an enormous tank-like vehicle when gas costs an arm and a leg?

I'd be happy paying $5/gallon if it got all the Excursions off the road.

I would like to triple the gas prices for a year or two, just long enough for everyone to get rid of their SUV's then they can drop them back down so that us folk who drive ordinary sized cars can go about our lives normally.

Not for more than four fillups anyway. Unless you took your children's limbs as well. What the hell do they need them for?

DAMN STRAIGHT!!! I hope all the r****ds that went out and bought SUV's and full-size pickups costing $35-$50k with no purpose other than saying they have an SUV suffer...

Hopefully I'll be able to pull out of parking spots again without guessing what's around Bigfoot parked next to me. [IMG]

I have to own a truck because I have to haul things for my businesses. Either it is jewelry displays or speaker cabinets.

Personally, I wish I could just go with a compact car. That V6 in my Toyota Prerunner runs nice but that 18 MPG sucks!

Fortunately, I only drive it when I have to. If we didn't do antique/jewelry shows out of town regularly, I'd probably only put 5,000 miles a year on it.

Compact cars are great. Mine pollutes less and uses less gas than any gas-burning car on the road. I can always find a parallel parking space. I'll always inflict the least possible damage in a collision.

Only one problem: I get killed the first time an Excursion runs a red light across my route to work.

DoD, the thing is everyone who buys SUV's don't worry about gas prices. It would be like a millionaire buying a mansion and worrying about the light bill. It just doesn't happen.

aelliot, a British friend of mine told me about the gas thing, but he also said cars were cheaper there.

My wife has a Honda Del Sol, so I know the feeling. [IMG] We hardly ever drive it anymore because we work at home and my truck is our work vehicle.

I guess, in a way, we've actually saved gas because we just don't drive much even though when we do it is a big truck. Hopefully, it balances out.
