While I will not go as far as saying can't I have to confess that I somewhat agree with you. Yao has been dissapointing so far. Things will more than likely change (I hope so otherwise it would the worst nightmare) and for that reason I would use a word like can't that indicates an absolute and rigid stance. Yao has so far been p***y footing and it is unsettling and discomforting.

If Yao regresses in his all-important 3rd season, the management will have to decide whether or not he is worthy of a max contract based on his talents. As much change that the team has undergone in the offseason, JVG will run the offense through Yao a lot. TMac will get his, but Yao can either show up or basically be relegated to other tall guys like Smits and Ilgauskus. What's disturbing is his lack of precision and accuracy close to the basket. The guy can get a shot off with his hook or fade away jumper, but the ball doesn't go down. Maybe he needs to learn to use the backboard or something. There was a stretch last year during the regular season in which he basically had the hook shot almost automated. That hook shot has left him.

Regardless of whether Yao can learn to lead this team or not, he's still a max level player. If Gasol and possibly AK-47 are getting max contracts, then Yao should too. And good point about using the backboard more. I've been hoping that Yao would do that for a while now.

Ha, you're preaching to the choir, buddy. For instance I was sitting there thinking " Come On Yao, Tmac is out so this is your chance to lead.....ARRRGG....dunk the ball on Cato." Then a revealing thought from this preseason game came to me- a guy with no girlfriend and plenty of exams on the way should better utilize his time more efficiently than to worry about a preseason game.
