Im not a big bible thumper by any means, but Ive definitely felt the power of prayer work in my life. It seems that every religon has some sort of prayer practices. So is there a right or wrong way to pray?
When I went to Midnight Mass it was really weird for me because I have grown up around nothing Baptists and we were always told to keep your head down and eyes closed. Well it seems that Catholics don't follow by this rule because when they prayed everybody had their heads up and their eyes wide open looking around. Muslims pray on the knees pointed towards Mecca, I believe. I've seen some people just hold their hands together and just pray. I would say just go by whatever your religious group does to do it the right way because people just do it differently.
I wouldn't think the actual style of prayer really matters. To me, its what's in your heart and head, and why you're praying, that really is the key. If God is omniscient, then I don't think he'd really care so much the style but the substance.
...A private yoga lesson is 1 - 2 hours and may be experienced in your home or Andrea’s. For further information or to schedule an appointment, email andrea@yogagirl.com. ... Oooooh, sorry B-Bob. You should have mentioned that before Christmas.
Yea, I always drop my hints too late. Slightly on topic though, I do practice yoga, and I do find it somewhat spiritual in an odd way. I cannot, by the way, do the "stapler," or whatever-the-heck that pose of hers is.
I think Yoga is for confused women and for wussies. And if I tried to do whatever she is doing there, my thingy would get in the way. I think.
hey im not a religious guy but sometimes its hard not to pray every once in a while when things are really tough. the trick is not confusing religion and god and its not a problem for anybody praying is cool as long as no one sees me doing it
I don't think there is a right or wrong way, but I am not too fond of people who display their prayers in public and thereby force their exercise of their religious beliefs onto others in a certain way. I would prefer if people prayed in private or in places that are designated for praying.
Oh, you mean to say "Dis yohkuh iz for zhe veak! Ja! Vee need ze pushups und situps und ze running! Chanting und breezing, NEIN!"
My ex-girlfriend was fanatic about Yoga and she is a nutcase, so that might have influenced my opinion .
Oh, I ridiculed it for years, and I still do. But Mrs. B-Bob wore me down, I finally tried it, and what can I say? I like it, in limited doses.
Not true. But to western eyes it looks like prayer. An ancient story tells of a very poor but contented old man. One day his only horse ran away. The people in the village lamented, "Your horse has run off, too bad!" The man said, "Maybe" and smiled. Some days later, his horse returned with two wild horses tagging along. The villagers rejoiced, "Now you have 3 horses, how lucky!" But the old man smiled as before and said, "Maybe". The next day, his only son, while taming one of the wild horses, fell and broke his leg. The villagers said, "Oh no! Now your son will not be able to help you in the fields, how unfortunate for you"! Again, the old man smiled and said, "Maybe". A few days later, the army came to the village, conscripting all able-bodied young men, and of course, they couldn’t be bothered to cart along a man with a broken leg...
I don't know if you meant it to be --- but this is a very Christian belief (despite the televangelists). Jesus went off into the mountains to pray and told other to find a "closet" and pray in secret.
Isn't it a good thing if you encourage a few people to pray? I mean, don't go and TELL them. Just pray, and maybe ONE guy will go "You know, I should do it too." If they don't want to do it, then they just don't do it right? Muslims don't pray only on their knees btw. You're standing, then you bow, then you get on your knees and repeat all over again. It is in the direction of Mecca though, and people who are unable to bow and stuff can sit on a chair or sit on the floor, however they're comfortable. Do Christians have to wash up or anything before praying?
