HIS HANDS. I am really starting to get mad at Deke's performances. He does not play much, and when he does he is stinking it up. How many times last night would he have had an easy layup, if he could only catch the ball? I know he is a great person and does a lot for his country, but on the basketball court his time has past. Too bad we do not have any other options.

Mutombo is a shadow of his former self. This should have been realised by Morey and his rehire not made. This was an error by Morey IMHO. :p

Dikembe always start off real slow. Not that I'm expecting a 41 year old to be a force in the middle or anything, but we can probably expect his performance to improve by midseason.

What do you want from the guy? At this point in his career, he is just a veteran big body who can occasionally guard the opposing center for about 10 minutes a game. Six extra fouls to give and maybe a clean-up basket every once in a while.

You people are crazy taking shots at Deke. He'll probably be ready by mid-season to play better. He is 41, I doubt he trains hard for the season during the summer, so essentially he is still getting in "game shape".

Yes, it was frustrating to see Deke fumble the ball 3 (4?) times. But the last thing anyone expects out of Deke is to score any points. He's there to give Yao a breather, defend, rebound, and most importantly wag the finger! There's a reason Deke was wide open last night. It would be nice if he could convert, but even w/ Hayes on the court Deke is still our last offensive option. I think the guy is a great veteran morale booster on the bench too.

Ironically, I think if they had passed it above his head rather than at his waist he would have dunked a couple of those. He was wide open right under the basket though, they had to try to get it to him.

yeah he fumbled passes its amazing to me a guy who can get so many rebounds by tipped it to himself has so much trouble just catching a ball and age has nothing to do with it. its catching the ball.

oh and its not the guards they made the correct pass every single time to deke but he fumbled the ball away. i kept telling Raid that if it was anyone else on the team we'd have an extra 3-4 layups because of those passes

A couple of the passes definitely shouldn't have happened but on at least one Deke had no excuse. I hope you guys are right about him improving as the season goes on. He looks very bad out there.

Don't get mad at Deke. At this stage of his career, we shouldn't except anything more than a few rebounds and a block once in a while. You are delusioned if you expect offensive contribution from him.

Don't you think players like Tmac and Bonzi should have more sense than to pass to Deke cutting to the basket, though? I mean, talk about knowing your personnel..you've played with the guy for 2-3 years now -- you should know that even if it's a perfect pass and he catches it cleanly, it takes him another second or 2 to gather himself and go up with it. Foolish passes, IMO, whether or not they were right on the money is a separate issue.

The Ball should never go to Mutombo expecting him to score. when he does get it, he should pass it to an open player! :p

    1. They should not be passing to him. He should get the ball on rebounds.

    2. Our team is BAD at post entry passes. Yao has just worked his a$$ off to be able to actually catch them.

    3. The only person who has been able to hold onto these passes is Chuck Hayes and thats because he has that natural feeling for the ball combined with freakishly strong hands.

You guys remember Stromile trying to catch thos passes? He was worse than Deke. I don't know why they kept on trying to feed Deke though.

    Deke has 2 purposes:

    1. Rebounding
    2. Blocking shots

Any Rocket player who tries to get him involved in the offense is an idiot.

Exactly. He wasn't expecting the pass on both occasions. I don't understand why Rafer and Bonzi wanted to pass to Deke when they were already 2 feet from the basket. Just throw the ball up there and let Deke get the board.

Deke can only handle balls coming off the rim or glass or from above... I gues his hands are like cups or baskets, they need a gravitational falling effect for him to catch it... If they're going to throw to him, might as well aim for the backboard or throw a lob.

For all of the crying and whining about Chuck not having an offensive game other than layups and Shane not being anything other than a spot up shooter I sure don't see much criticism for a guy who cannot catch 90% of the passes that hit him right in the hands.

I know he is old but since when is that an excuse? It wasn't an excuse for Clarence Weatherspoon or Charles Oakley or Charlie Ward or any of the other geezers that got minutes for this team. Either you can play the game or you can't.
