I didn't just start this thread because of Padgett's 2 game winners lately. But Padgett has played well for us the last 2 seasons and it would be nice to see him get more minutes.

With all the inconsistent (and at times, bad) play our role players have given us this season, Padgett/Deke has been a breath of fresh air for me. Padgett is not the bruiser rebounder we want at PF, but neither is Howard and MoT.

Padgett comes off the bench and provides energy. He can hit the open jumper, is a decent rebounder (especially compared to our 2 other PFs), and finds ways to get his hand on loose balls.

It's just nice to know that atleast one of our PF's is working for their paycheck.

The same can be said for Deke. Both guys come in and do their job. They make their shots, they rebound, and don't make bonehead plays. Deke in my mind is the best backup C in the league and I hope we resign him for another year.

Keep up the good play Deke and let's hope we see more consistent minutes for Padgett.

I've actually wanted to start SP at the 3 at the beginning of the season, that or just have himn start instead of MoT. Deke has been one of my favorite players this season, I really want to say that I will be a fan of Dike from now on no matter what team he goes to.. but then i forgot, he's 38, 48, or 58... and the Rockets might be his last team

    Even Spoon?

I also forgot to mention how nice it has been to hear about Deke's work for the hospital in the Congo. Talk about a Class-A guy, I'm glad this year's Tux-n-Tennies will benefit that cause.

Deke has already become one of my favorite Rockets of all time!!

Strick is quietly doing a wonderful job for us and IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER as he gets his motto running and stamina elevated - believe it!

The big thing he is doing now is sparing Sura and allowing him to rest over along periods of time. He does not push the ball up enough for my liking but I believe that will change with time and cohesion.

IMHO, he is a great pickup and should serve us great with his uncanny understanding of how to run any offensive scheme and give his team mates passes where they can score easily with it.

I kept mum on him earlier because I was not sure what to expect but now I am semi-loving his addition. He isn't spry anymore but he will be solid to us down the stretch. Kudos to JVG and CD for this pickup. Interesting the Magic brass were looking to sign him up as well but we swooped in and got his autograph sooner.

    Developing......

As recently as the Orlando game, he played terrible. Where do you get that he is doing a wonderful job, one outside shot and a dish to Yao doesn't constitute a wonderful job. I hope you are right that he will be a good pickup but I have not been impressed so far.

Scott Padgett after those 2 clutch shots deserves more playing time, MoT just got demoted when he comes back from IL. Don't know about him starting quite yet, but he deserves more PT to prove whether he should start. Do it JVG.

I always loved Deke. I hope he can play FT for the Rox for a couple of more years, become player/coach for a couple more years after that, become the Rox big mans coach when he hangs up his Nikes and then have the Rox retire his number in 2025.

deke and pad have been outstanding this season. them, with barry and sura would make a great bench....if we only had a true starting PG.

I agree that "a wonderful job" is a ridiculous statement.

However, I think he has played ok...he can handle the ball and is passing/slashing very well. I think if half of his game can come around...we'll be in good shape. (with him as a backup, I mean)

If he starts for 5-10 games while Sura is hurt, I can handle...but if he starts the rest of the season, of course not.

But I really think people aren't giving Strick enough of a chance on this board. Give him time to play himself into shape. He'll improve and be decent

I've wanted Padgett at the 4 since the preseason. But the 3? Good lord, the Rockets would get smoked every game. Padgett can't defend any 3 in the NBA

You know what needs to happen? Padge should start calling for Iso's like AIR BULL! :D

Come one, that was some funny stuff....I need to pull up the Air Bull song, it's been a while.

Cheers to "Scotty the Body", a little homoerotic, but still funny

The role players for the Rockets are a bit unpredictable: Sura, Barry, Howard, Wesley were "off" last night; but Padgett and Mutombo appear to be very consistent. I am very pleased with both of them. Sura et.al. have their moments and are very important. When they are all "on" the Rockets can beat most teams.

Deke, Padgett, Sura, Barry - I really like all 4 of these guys. Great role players we've brought in. Vets who do the job asked of them.

I agree, and I'd include Wesley on there.

I mean, either Barry is getting unfair props or Wesley is getting unfairly dissed. Barry has had a couple of good games, but he was highly ineffective for a while after the trade. In the same way, Wesley has had a few good games (and very consistent D), but hasn't been as effective shooting/scoring as I hoped/expected. I think he'll pick it up, just like I think Barry will be more consistent as they continue to get acclimated. But don't diss Wesley (this is directed to everyone, not specifically to you at all)

I'll agree on Wesley, I like his D and he competes. Dude's gotta shoot better though, 35% won't cut it as a starting shooting guard in the NBA.
