I read on NBAtalk.com that the Indiana Pacers are going to try to play Jalen at the point guard since Mark Jackson left. How do you think Jalen would match up against other Eastern Conference point guards?

Could Thomas be a better coach then Bird? That's a tough call. I remember at the beginning of the Lakers-Pacers series, Thomas made the bold prediction that the Pacers would take the series in 6. He must have a strong belief in the players and why not? Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose are excellent players. Austin Croshere is going to get even more playing time so he is going to develop.

The Pacers are still the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. But I see New York, Miami, and possibly Orlando as contenders in the East.

Before you pound on this one too hard, read what Tim Hardaway is saying. If the Heat don't start to scratch his back, it may him at the 1 , Rose @2 and , Miller @3!!

Whats wrong with Travis Best? Hardaway and Rose are nice, but I think Best deserves to start after years of playing behind Jackson. And if they can't find a capable backup, let Rose play backup point, which would free up some minutes for Al Harrington and Johnathan Bender.

Best is the best perimeter defender on that team.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but players who sign for the minimum don't count against the salary cap??

In that case couldn't Hardaway just sign for the vets minimum with Indiana to play there (if he's seriously thinking about it)?

I don't see how Hardaway helps the Pacers in any way. They have Best and Jalen to play the point. Hardaway is strictly a point man, plus his body is breaking down in his old age.

That might be true ROckets03, but Best is probably a better defender against today's faster, quicker and more explosive PG's than Mark Jackson was.

GATER, the Pacers have no money left to bring Hardaway to Indiana.

Az, Best will get lots of time at the point this year. Jalen is much more valuable as a swingman.

Jalen needs to score, not pass for that team to succeed. Best is a pretty good point guard. He is not good defensively, but can still get the job done. If Pacer hadnt let the exception expire they could have made a move for Timmy. I think its too late now though.

Seems like Hardaway might seriously leave Miami, and the Pacers and Bulls appear to be the leading contenders, although all the other Olympic players are trying to get him to join them

He's not a good help defender; 1 on 1 defense is his strength. He's small, but very sturdy, and he's given Allen Iverson trouble in the past.

Im not saying u are wrong Cabby. But I was just stating my belief on the few Pacer games I have seen. And the few games I have seen, he didnt seem that good defensively. Maybe he was just having a bad game.

Best truly is their best one on one defender. He is utilized a lot to guard Iverson (but who can stop him?), Hardaway, Stoudamire and he did a good job on Kobe Bryant when they played in the finals. I am not sure why they didn't play him on Kobe more than they did.

He doesn't steal the ball a lot, but he plays defense with great footwork and speed. He seems to anticipate well.

Wasn't Jonathan Bender one of the first players taken in the first round of the draft a few years ago? Was he just extremely good in college and then bombed in the NBA? I saw the guy once playing garbage minutes against the Lakers in the playoffs.

Bender was/is a high school kid. He has superstar potential, but they are bringing him along slowly. He was the #5 pick in the 1999 draft.

Gater,Miller at 3?A lot of people do not realize Best is a very strong guy for his size and what i could see from the past year he plays very good defense.Rose can play 1,2,or3 but i think best should get the bulk of the minutes at the point. They should start Rose at small forward with Croshere coming off the bench for Davis and Rose.Pacers have a really good bench if they would just play Bender and Harrington.
