On realgm.com's rumor section, they have repotred a possible trade between the Pacers and Celtics. Here it is: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Providence Journal reports that the Celtics and Pacers are talking about a trade. According to a report from ESPN, they are talking about a deal that would send forward Austin Croshere and point guard Jamal Tinsley to the Celtics for veteran point guard Kenny Anderson. The Celtics are looking for insurance. Tinsley would be their point guard of the future and Croshere would step into the role that Rodney Rogers played last season in the event that Rogers can’t be re-signed. The Pacers want to get out from under Austin Croshere’s contract and are worried about Tinsley’s immaturity. With Anderson having only one year remaining on his contract, he becomes more financially feasible than Croshere’s cap-killing contract. In order for this deal to take place, they will have to wait until August 1st when Croshere’s BYC status expires. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a stupid ovefor the Pacers. Tinsley will be better than Anderson next year. Why do they do this? My only explanation is that they want to move Croshere BAD. They just get an older point guard whos only got a couple years left in him. I would rather have Tinsley ove KA....What are your thoughts?
I like the possible trade. Celts get a young exciting guard to run the team with Pierce and Walker, and added shooting and scoring with Croshere, they'd definitely run everyone in the east, the Pacers get a more solid veteran pg with Andersen and lose Crosheres crazy contract, good deal if it goes down.
I don't see what this does for the Pacers besides get Croshere's contract of the books. It helps the Celtics big time. Croshere is more fit for the role Rogers filled last season and Tinsley will be by far the better point guard.
That's my point exactly LA. It makes the Celtcs contenders...maybe even with the Lakers once Tinsley fully developes. Plus Croshere's game will step up to what it once was because he is in the perfect role. All the Pacers get is a decent pg on the decline.
This "report" from ESPN comes from their Insider section as one of the trades they think should happen to benefit both teams. It's nothing more than a rumor they perpetuated, tough they (at Insider) seem to think it does have some credibility.
If there is any credibility at all to this trade, then I think Boston should do it in a heartbeat. They get a young point guard in Tinsley who is already a master at distributing the ball. He can play defense, he's strong and he's a good leader. He already has playoff experience and he along with Pierce and Walker will be the foundation of the Celtics for years to come. The plus here is Croshere. I think the Celts should pull the trigger even if it was Tinsley for Anderson straight up, but they also get Croshere, who has years of playoff experience. He's a big man, like Rodney Rogers, who can hit the trey, however I do think he has better slashing moves than Rogers. I don't know what Indiana is thinking.
Note how this trade really doesn't make much sense for either squad. Tinsley is overrated as a playmaker, being among the league leaders in turnovers. He's a much worse shooter than Jason Kidd, and that says a lot. He and Anderson are equal in terms of ability. Croshere's salary automatically throws the Celtics into luxury tax land, something they've desperately been trying to avoid. He might fit on their team in some unforseen role, but I don't think the Celtics are going to break their bank for Austin Croshere. Essentially, he'd be a throw in to make salaries work & clear Indy's cap - and I can't see Boston too willing to do that.
