Truer to the ideas of the book, IMO, but I can see why they didn't use it. Doesn't really work with the rest of the film. http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/03/05/must-watch-i-am-legends-original-ending-this-is-amazing/
actually I think it fits much better into the movies tone and themes, really wished they would have used that one as oppossed the stupid one they kept.
That was nothing like the book. That didn't even make sense. The whole butterfly thing was r****ded. (in both versions) EDIT: Fixed Spoiler In the book, the vampires tricked him and he thought they were human. They came in and invaded his house with guns and he got shot. Then they executed him in front of the vampire civilization. He was the only human left. So there was no more "Legend of the Vampire", he was the legend now since their was only one of him. Hence the name. He never brought a zombie back to life or even dealt with zombies for that matter. There were no other survivors.
I have a question... how come they are afraid of light throughout the entire movie, burn at the "touch" of light. And then in the end, when there is fire in the lab, they don't burn.
The problem for people who have porphyria is the high intensity UV light, like in sunlight. They only suffer physical damage from being exposed to the light from the sun. They often have sensitivity and aversion to bright lights that aren't sunlight, but it doesn't cause physical damage like the sun. I assume it is similar for the vampire things.
oh wow, just saw it without sound (work computer)..... LOOKED FANTASTIC, i cant wait to watch it agian at home!!!
Just because they didn't accept your remake of "Robocop 2: return to Houston", doesn't mean you gotta be mad at Hollywoods, man. OK, but there were other parts of the movie that fire scared them away. Spoiler like in the time he blew up all those cars around the hizzie. ... what about that?
I'd say it is more in line with the book's tone and themes. The idea of the intelligence of the 'vampires' is only briefly explored in the movie. I read the book a long time ago and this is definitely closer to the themes there (although on the whole way off from the book) but they aren't really setup through the rest of the movie. It just doesn't work with the film we'd have spent two hours watching, IMO.
I would say technorogee & the overuse of CGI has ruined movies but it does have a place in some films. Plus, without technorogee i wouldn't have been able to save myself 8 bucks and seen this crapfest of a movie at home.
The fire didn't scare them because it was light. It scared them because it was fire. As far as the ending, I think some of you are missing how this is similar to the book so let me attempt to explain. In the book he hunts vampires and that's why he's the legend. He's a legend to the vampires. Here, when he takes a look at the wall of the zombies that have died in his attempts to find a cure, you see that that's what he's done. He's hunted and killed numerous zombies which most likely made him a legend in the zombie world. You don't get that realization in the original ending.
If you are going to make a movie based on a book and then briefly explore something, you are doing a disservice. Leave that crap out of the movie if you're going to change it. The vampires talked in the book. They created a society, not some circle jerk shaking in the movie (that was so weird). If this guy loves his zombie girl so much or whatever, WHY THE HELL IS HE BANGING HIS HEAD ON BULLET PROOF GLASS?? I'm pretty sure love and head banging on glass are mutually exclusive. I got so pumped for the movie that I bought the book first. I liked the book then all of the sudden it ended halfway through on page 150. The rest of the book was another 150 pages of short stories that had nothing to do with the book! There was no advertisement for these short stories on the book at all. I thought I was halfway through then the book ended. r****ded. My entire experience with I AM Legend has been terrible. I was so excited and so dissappointed. I still can't believe they killed that freakin' dog.
I'm working from a vague memory here, but it scared them away, right? It didn't boil their skin? I think it is a separate issue beyond being physically injured by UV. Some bats, IIRC have trouble seeing in daylight because their eyes are adjusted to night. A sudden flash of bright light would essentially blind them. Also, think of people who have bad migraines who want to stay in dark rooms. Sudden, bright lights can trigger intense headaches. So the idea would be that the loud explosion would blind them and cause intense pain, which would cause them to retreat. The sunlight would kill them. UV skin issues make them night predators. The sensitivity to light is an adjustment that is beneficial to a night predator.
i liked the movie with the theatre ending and like it just as much with the book. the ending i just watched had me on my toes, so i felt it, but i didnt quite get it as well... probably need to read the book.
Okay so on a scale of one to ten on how much the endings are like the book: Theatrical Ending:1 This Ending:3
The problem is that the movie that people think this is a remake of (Omega Man) was in essence a remake itself (The Last Man on Earth).
