When's the last time any of you have seen Red Dawn. That flick is hysterically right wing, much like The American President is hysterically left wing. The best part is the scene with the Cuban military leader telling them to get the gun registration forms so they know where all the gun owners live. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Still a great movie though, starring SWT alum Powers Boothe!! "What's the capital of Texas?" "Austin" "Wrong, it's Houston you commie b*stard!" ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin

Have you ever seen it? I didn't mean it as a slight an anyway, it's just a right wing hollywood movie, something that doesn't come along too often. You are conservative aren't you? Anyhow, it was supposed to be a joke. ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin
I disagree that RED DAWN epitomizes itself as a worthwhile right wing hollywood movie as you suggest...Yes, I've seen it but I wouldn't say this is the greatest movie since the NRA came along... I realize you are some sort of "movie expert" or something and you can categorize a particular movie based on ideology, contrast, style, etc. but I value movies on the favorable impression it left on me... For example, I love the Star Wars trilogy from my childhood days. Most recently, I count Traffic as a movie I personally recommend. Some would say Traffic is a very, very far "left wing" movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless...imagine that! ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
One of my all-time favorite movies is "The Way We Were." Yeah, kind of surprises me too, but I watch it whenever I can catch it. One of my most irksome movies: "Dead Man Walking." Question about "Red Dawn:" If that invasion happened, which of you on this board wouldn't be looking to arm yourself? And regret having had to register your gun? Yeah, I know it's not likely, but if I'm paranoid so are the authors of the Bill of Rights who wrote it that way and so are the participants of 225 years of Congressional sessions who have never codified gun registration. ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils. And regret having had to register your gun? I haven't seen the movie, but why would having had to register the gun be a problem? ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
LOL Because then that information could be used to FIND gun owners and DISARM them. Red Dawn is a killer flick. ------------------ The death penalty SUCKS.
Registration leads to confiscation..that's the problem. ... ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
LOL Because then that information could be used to FIND gun owners and DISARM them. Yes, because in the event we're invaded, I'm sure everyone is going to just stay at their houses and wait for the enemy to come attack them... ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Maybe we should eliminate concealed gun permits too, then, because that could give the bad guys a list of whose generally carrying weapons. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
I'm gonna be LOL when I look down at the fool who tried to disarm me! ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
Yeah, 300 million people will all leave their houses at once. C'mon now. And actually the term is Concealed Handgun License. You can't conceal a shotgun too easily under your shirt. ------------------ The death penalty SUCKS.

RichRocket, why would Congress have a need to codify gun registration? Seems like the sort of thing you'd leave up to the individual states. There is no congressional statute on car registration, but that's not due to paranoia. ------------------ Bingbong was set up, led to an untimely death in the prime of his life for no other reason than pure malice. R$chRocket, What kind of movie is that about? I couldn't find it anywhere. ------------------ "Bada Bing!"
RichRocket: You know, I hope, that the founders had absolutely no intention of providing for individual, unregistered gun-ownership. Read the link I gave Beto. Or do a search on lexis yourself. Or just read Miller v United States. Edit: Argh... what's the point. I need to learn to let things slide . ------------------ Lacking inspiration at the moment... Yeah, 300 million people will all leave their houses at once. C'mon now. About as realistic as the US being invaded all at once. If your town is being invaded, I don't think you'll be sitting in your house waiting for them to come find you, armed or not. Could be wrong... And actually the term is Concealed Handgun License. You can't conceal a shotgun too easily under your shirt. I'm not sure I got the point. It's still a listing of people who are armed in the US -- not a complete list, but neither is a gun registration list. It's still a starting point, though, so we should get rid of those permits too, no? ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Actually, the best part of the movie is when they describe how the Cuban and Nicaraguan armies invaded with the help of illegal aliens in Texas. ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin
Well in the movie, paratroopers land in a small town. An invasion would obviously need to have some element of surprise which it did in Red Dawn. Where do you propose 4 million Houstonians go? A gun registration list would have tens of millions more names on it than a CHL list, not to mention much more powerful firearms than handguns. Why would an invading army concern itself initially with a small list of handgun owners when a complete gun registration list would allow them to systematically target the more powerful weapons registered? ------------------ The death penalty SUCKS.
I'm still trying to figure out how it was a surprise. How did enemy planes make it to Colorado without any warning? And why some small town in Colorado? ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin
