The one player that I want out of this draft more than any other

Julius Hodge-I think he would make a great PG/SG and will be a star in this league. He plays with a tons of heart. He's long, and quick. He will be a very good defender along with being able to penetrate and get the ball to Yao and TMac. I think he is the most underrated player in this draft and has been that way since he was first being listed at the bottom of the 2nd round in the mocks. He has jumped his mock status up to midway of the first round. This is the same guy that frustrated Chris Paul into taking a cheap shot at him. Why, because he was driving Chris Paul nuts with his defense, rebounding, and driving the lane on Paul. Julius plays with heart, he's a leader, and he brings a lot of intangibles to the court, namely the ability to get the ball to the right spot at the right time of the game. If the Rockets could only get one player out of this draft, I would want them to get Hodge.

Does Hodge justify a #24 pick when the draft is as deep as this years draft? Unfortunately I have not seen much of his game. He does have heart...

I am still undecided on who I would like for them to pick.

I'll tell you this, I would love for them to find a way to get an additional pick and get Hodge with it.

As for the first pick... (the short list depending on who falls) Warrick, Jack, Graham,Diogu, Roko Ukic, Taft, Villanueva?, McCants?, but kinda leaning towards Graham.

I want us to get Diogo. However, if he is taken (which he probably will be) then I agree that we should get Hodge.

If you want Graham just take his twin brother Stephen. He is an inch shorter but has a much more refined perimiter game including a much better shot. Joey is going to have to prove that he can play the perimeter in the NBA and I will have to see it to believe it. I am a huge OSU fan and love Joey but I have reservations about his abilities and how they will translate to the NBA. Stephen on the other hand has skills that will definitely translate to the NBA. I really hope he comes to our camp as a UFA.

I agree. After reading the scouting report, I sure hope we bring him to camp and don't trade up to get Joey.

I'd rather we work to grab a legit floor general or Haslem-type hardhat PF than a dime-a-dozen scrawny slashing SG.

Hodge is a good player but he's not the kind of player I salivate over. There are other players I want more than him. I guess we just have to sit back and wait and see who will be available when the rockets are on the clock.

i've got nothing against julius hodge, but i see two problems with picking him. before i list those out, i just want to say again how much it blows that the rockets don't have a 2nd round pick this year (which would be a great place to take hodge)...now back to hodge specifically:

    1) he's not a PG...there are a ton of guys who played SG in college and are tried out at PG in the nba and don't make the transition. it's about as hard of a position change as there is. dwyane wade, gilbert arenas, maybe kirk hinrich, and nobody else that i can think of (those two guys are still not playing a pure PG on their teams). the same reason why i wouldn't want to take a luther head, i'd say the same is true for hodge.

    2) hodge isn't a good shooter from the outside...this is a major liability for any perimeter player on the rockets.

Hodge blows so bad that Chris Paul punched him in the nuts out of frustration. :D

I really like what Hodge would bring to the team. He was a vocal leader who shared the ball well and played with alot of hustle. He's not gonna settle for outside shots(and realizes he doesn't have the consistency anyway) like most of our squad does.

I still think we're two quality guards and a solid big from really competing.
