Do you guys believe this warning that is commonly stated on the back side of, say, deli ham or turkey packages, or franks? I've eaten ham after it has been opened for 7 days and have never gotten sick. Same with turkey. Thoughts?
I follow warnings like those out of fear. No kidding. I will not drink a glass of milk a day after its expiration date. However, I've heard it's still "good" 7 days afterward. The same goes for anything else. I'm probably one who overreacts to labels like that, but I remember the taste of spoiled milk as a kid. I was never the same. With deli meat, I'd play it safe too. I like this thread though...I'd like to see what other people believe.
Codman, I think the milk expiration date is legit. I'm not so sure about the deli meats one. I'm just so sick and tired of debating in my mind whether I should eat those last few slices of turkey when you know it's like 9 days old after opening.
Deli meats can often harbor nasty bacteria like listeria. edit: this thread reminds me of why I should be studying my infectious diseases notes...

I tend to follow exp. dates...legit or not I really dont want to play with bacterial problems, they can get really nasty! PROTIP: Follow exp dates.
