http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20040912023 Jerome Bettis - PIT 5 Rushes 1 Yard 3 FREAKING TDs!!! WTF?
Looks like the Bus is officially a 1 yard back. Although that's pretty much all he's been capable of for the past couple of years.
6:50 PIT TD Jerome Bettis rushed to the right for 1 yard gain (Jeff Reed made PAT) 0 - 7 2nd Quarter 11:20 PIT TD Jerome Bettis rushed up the middle for 1 yard gain (Jeff Reed made PAT) 3:55 PIT TD Jerome Bettis rushed to the left for 1 yard gain (Jeff Reed made PAT) 10 - 21 quite efficient lol
And now I laugh at my buddy who drafted Duce Staley and called him a "steal" in our fantasy league. Ha ha ha haha !
Watching this week of Football, a lot of teams out there could use a 1-yard back like the Bus. (Indianapolis is #1 on this list) Sure, its TERRIBLE for us fantasy players to have a team use a guy like that, but its almost like a guaranteed TD, or 1st down... if it ever becomes a game of inches.
How hard is it to find a guy like that though? Aren't there enough athletes out there who could be designated leapers that every team should have one? I recall Texas had a guy like that who lead the team in scoring TD's one year - Chris Robertson. He transferred to Houston to get a shot at starting fulltime, I figured he could've at least made a roster slot as a leaper, if nothing else. He was money inside of two yards, I wish he'd stayed at Texas - but you can't fault a guy for wanting to start.
I think its a lot like closers in baseball... it seems so easy just to plug one guy in there, and have him get you 3 quick outs... but for some reason guys who thrive elsewhere just can't thrive there. I also think the fact that Bettis was once a premeir RB, and now is moving into this role, helps him see the holes better. He's a rare combination of speed, size, and POWER... and there really isn't anybody as big as him, who's had the vast experience of running the football that he has had.
