Do you guys like it when you see any player wearing the number 23??
Simple Question...me and a couple of friends were watching the cavs game thursday at buffalo wild wings and i started the debate. My main point was that i feel it should be retired league wide where no one can wear it (i.e Jackie Robinson)

Question is...do you think it should not be allowed in the nba anymore?

Might as well retire everybody else's jersey numbers too then.

I would say the league should also retire #34 because Hakeem, Barkley, and Shaq (when he was at his most dominant) all wore it. What would your objection be to that?

Dumbest thing I've heard. Too bad it came from Lebron's mouth first. I guess anything he says is gospel.

How is it the dumbest thing you've ever heard? It was a simple question..I just think it is a great thing to do to one of the greatest player to ever play his sport. I just think it would be a great honor for MJ.

    Maybe not 23, but 45?

Low numbers are common jersey numbers to wear. You see a lot of #1 - #25, but not a lot of #26 - #99.

I dont think they should retire it. I've had this conversation with people before, usually with Lebron fans because Lebron seems to be the biggest advocate for the retirement of 23. I dont know why any NBA player would want to be 23. It should be more of an unspoken thing not official. otherwise, you look like some Jordan obsessed player who wants to have his jersey be a tribute to MJ. I do judge nba players wearing 23. haha. If I were a NBA rookie, I would do everything in my power to not wear that number, that way if I picked a different number, I'd have the opportunity to have my number get the fame that MJ brought 23. I'd be 43 or whatever. then people think me when they hear 43 (small chance but still).

What has Michael Jordan done to have his number retired by the entire league?

i voted to retire. it seems ridiculous when players try to compare themselves to lebron in this manner.

If you think what MJ did is even remotely comparable to what Jackie Robinson did, you have no clue.

Since he's ONE of the greatest players ever, what about the others that are also members of the "ONE of the greatest players ever" club?

Bird, Magic, Shaq (though not yet retired), Hakeem... to name a few in our recent era.

Jordan is my top 2 favorite player right behind Dream, but even I think it's ridiculous. It is a great honor for MJ to have his # retired, but why single him out?

You still haven't given us any concrete reasons to why he needs this honor.

No, the only reason a number should be universally banned if it's like the case of JAckie Robinson where he broke the colour barrier. Was MJ the first black basketball player? I don't think so. Did him playing open up doors to minorities to play in the NBA. No. So the simple answer is no

Michael Jordan, while extremely good and a legend, is not anything like Jackie Robinson. Jordan did great, great things for the Bulls, but I don't recall anything special he did for the entire NBA to warrant a league-wide jersey retirement. Robinson, on the other hand, opened the doors for black players across the country for MLB, and perhaps even other sports.

Do not even try and compare Jordan and Robinson in significance.
