Francis didn't have any say in where he was going, Houston just had the right package. I know that Detroit offered several packages, including Jerry Stackhouse, and I think Toronto and Washington offered some packages, but Houston had the best one (A star 2-guard and solid PF).

Pffft, of course not, but we THINK we do, that is what makes this interesting! [IMG]

I think we must wait and see what happens in the next offseason. If we could get Webber or finley then it would be even better than Shawn Marion. Also there's no garantee that we would've selected Marion, hey i was pretty sure that we were going to select Rashard Lewis which we offcourse didn't.

Few things:

The Hakeem-to-Toronto rumors came on June 30, 1999... Michael Murphy is pretty sure the Rockets were going to send the #5 to Cleveland for the #8, then select Shawn Marion.... well Ric Bucher of ESPN then reported the Rockets were shipping Christie and the #5 to Orlando for Penny Hardaway.

Also, Pippen was already on the Rockets at this time. He was traded 2 months later.

If I am not mistaken, we would have traded the pick that we got Dickerson with to Toronto with Hakeem.

We were right in not doing that deal. Dream wouldn't have gone along with it, it would have been a PR disaster, and we are known for being loyal to our players. That gets us guys like Francis, Anderson, Mo, and Mobely to sign with us instead of somewhere else. Its not just about what we would have gotten in trade.

we made the right decision ... no regrets...

You can't make a speculation like that...I doubt Francis would be here if that had gone down. That trade would have changed the dynamics of a huge chain reaction in the NBA. "What ifs" will drive you nuts.

There is something I don't understand. Why would you trade for a lower pick? Why wouldn't they have selected Marion at 5?

They traded down b/c Marion was not going to go in the top 5, probably something around 7-10th pick, the other team needed the 5th pick to get someone that was suppose to go 4-6th picks. Every pick position is worth something. So in that case, we would hopefully still get the Marion at 8th pick and get somthing extra for moving down 3 spots.

Remember when We were all set to trade Dream To Toronto For Two Draft Picks? Last Night Michael Murphy of the Houston Chronicle was on a Radio Basketball program . He said that If this deal went down , We would have sent our #5 from Toronto to Cleveland and Cleveland would have sent us the #8 pick Because the Cavs really wanted Wally Sczerbiak . Then Murphy Said He was pretty sure The Rockets Would have selected Shawn Marion with the #8 pick . How many of us wish we had Shawn Marion over Dream right Now? Also he said if any deal goes down for Dream it would likely be the one to Phoenix .

Maybe, but would we have Steve Francis now? Doubtful.

You cant tell what might have been . But Even If we dont have Francis our Lineup is

PG- Michael Dickerson
SG- Shandon Anderson
SF- Shawn Marion
PF- Maurice Taylor
C - Kelvin Cato

Looks pretty good to me .

There is no reason the Rockets wouldn't have gotten Francis. The principle players in the Francis deal were Carr, Price, Dickerson, Othella, guys we still had. And Houston still would have needed a PG, so it is likely that we would have had Francis, but we wouldn't have Shandon.

Cancel MoTay as well, if we traded Dream, we wouldn't have cap to sign him, and he wouldn't sign here in the first place. Shandon wouldn't have signed because Barkley wouldn't have resigned on a Hakeem-less team, Quitten wouldn't have stayed and Dickerson can't play PG by ANY stretch of the imagination.

So, does
Mobley/Bryce Drew
Dickerson/Christie
Marion/Walt
KT/Rogers/Massenburg
Willis/Cato

But Nike, Doug Christie and Kevin Willis would have also been on that team.

This is turning into "the post I now regret"
You guys are confusing the hell out of me .
Who the hell started at PG for the Rockets in 1998-99? We probably still would have gotten Francis , I believe He would have come to Houston anyways .

PG Francis
SG Mobley
SF Marion
PF Kenny Thomas? Mo Taylor?
C Cato?/Collier?

I'm not sure but did Francis have a say where he was traded to? I know a rookie should have no say, but I wasn't sure if it was OK'd by Stevie or not.
I think if it was OK'd by him that it was done because it seemed like with Dream & Chuck that he would have had a great opportunity to be on a championship caliber team.
But if Stevie had no say in the trade then it probably is irrelevant and the traded would have been done anyways, I think.

if we traded sampson to portland we would have had drex, mj, and dream in their primes.

If we drafted Lewis, instead of turkcan, we could very possibly be a playoff team.

So what?

I dont think CD regrets it.

They want dream to finish his career out here.
