Dont know if its been posted here but I just wanted to pass this tid bit along to Rockets fans.... Word is, the next Yao's Restaurant will be in Houston Pavillions, a multi-block mixed-use retail/bar/residential/ofiice development which ends a mere two blocks away from Toyota Center. This is also the same place where you will soon find a House of Blues too..... This is an overhead view of Houston Pavillions with Toyota Center in the background in the upper left corner. Construction is scheduled to commence September 15th Dare I say....Rockets fans now might have there own official hangout spot for pre and postgame parties. I expect Yao's bar inside his restaurant to be insane to capitalize on its location near Toyota Center.
Its about time Downtown becomes a hang out spot again. I use to hang out in downtown every weekend 2 years ago. Then it just got bad, the crowd and violence. Hopefully this project keeps its value for man years to come once its built.
Is there a plan to upgrade Yao's menu or food quality? twas the worst chinese food i ever had, and expensive.
really? i think it's surprisingly pretty damn good for americanized chinese food. and it's definitely not low quality.
Yup. I met with the leasing manager for this project last Tuesday. He said it was slated to be completed by mid-2007, but now has been pushed back to 2008. I believe they are trying to get 60% of the mall pre-leased to begin construction. If that doesn't happen soon the whole project will be canned. Good luck to them though. The rent for small shops in this place are unbelivable for a market like downtown, houston.
Well I have been waiting for this and the downtown central park project to get going I sure hope it does and I sure as hell will be going to Yao's place!
How is the first Yao restaurant doing? I didn't think it would be profitable enough to compel Yao to open another one.
Yao's has a few good dishes but most of their stuff is drenched in too much sauce. The bar area is really nice and contemporary though and I think that would be a hit Dtown.
Well the reason why I say its about to commence and gave the Sept 15th date is becuase tenants around the site have begun to recieve notices and updates on the construction that is coming shortly. On all the notices Ive seen, it has been noted that construction will begin on September 15th.
I enjoyed my trip to Yao's, the tea offerings was the highlight. I like any Chinese food, just any ol hole in wall, buffet or restaurant so I guess I shouldn't be a critic, but the whole experience was fun. The Bar was tight (as the kids say) I assume it would be fun to watch a game there..maybe a WC game.
