Tyson might bite on reality show LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Call it "Rocky" meets Mikey. The latest reality series project generating heat among the major broadcast networks is a limited-run series that would put a regular guy through an intense training regimen for the privilege of stepping into the ring with none other than Mike Tyson. Sources said producer Stu Schreiberg of Triage Entertainment is in talks with Tyson's managers to finalize an agreement for the project, which has drawn interest from Fox and other networks. Representatives for Schreiberg declined comment on the matter late Tuesday. Triage most recently produced the "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" special that ran on CBS late last year. Tyson first won the world heavyweight boxing title in 1987, and he's been in and out of scrapes outside the ring ever since. He served three years in prison from 1992-95 on a rape conviction. Last year, Tyson was denied a boxing license in Nevada because of a melee that broke out during a news conference to announce a bout against Lennox Lewis. The fight eventually was staged in Memphis, Tenn., in June, with Lewis soundly defeating Tyson.
"Triage Entertainment" -- I find this name appropriate for what will take place. My personal idea for a good reality show based on sports would be to take a relatively athletic guy (not a varsity athlete on the college level, but someone who is in good shape and has basketball playing experience), have them train intensely for 6 months, and then put them on a WNBA team. To make the stakes higher, if the person averages over 10ppg over the course of X number of games, then all WNBA programming should be removed from television. Incentives would have to be put in place to assure adequate playing time is given to the participant, as well as to make sure there are no on-court "freeze outs" whereby the ball is not passed to the participant. This idea sprouted from an office dinner that I attended. I made the assertion that with 1 year of training, I could "dominate" the WNBA. Well, let's just say a couple of ladies at the table took issue with the statement.
What the hell are they thinking? 6 months isnt enough to train a guy to be put in the ring with a former heavy weight? sounds like a dumb idea to me
Uhhhhhhhhh, this is crazy. Tyson could f-around and end up killing someone...face murder charges. I see a disaster. "Maybe I'll just fade into bolivian." "I gotta take my hand off to him..."
Tyson sucks. I'd watch it if it was free, but I'm never paying for a p***y fight again. After he got a beatdown by Lewis, Tyson was like "I love you man. I love you like a brother. I was just saying stuff to get in your head". I lost all respect for him right there.
I'm through with Tyson. The Lewis fight was the last time I will spend money on one of his pay-per-view events. Sometimes I like to close my eyes and imagine the Tyson of old... the best fighter of my lifetime.
You lost respect because he apologized and accepted his loss with dignity? Of all the crazy antics Tyson pulled, I find it disturbing that you picked this moment (one of the few times Tyson displayed some genuine class) to lose respect for him.
Oh, for chrissakes, can we just skip all these semi-dangerous reality series and fast forward straight to the full-scale gladiator combat reality series. We're headed in that direction, anyway. Running Man, anyone?
All Tyson had to do was shake Lewis' hand. He didn't need to go all soft on him talking about love. A handshake and maybe a hug would have shown mutual admiration and respect. Begging Lewis for a rematch by sucking his balls seconds after getting pummeled by doing a 180 of the prior week is why I lost respect for Tyson. Even Lewis said he didn't Tyson was geniune.
No doubt! Someone is finally going to die on one of these ridiculous shows. My "reality" TV experience began and ended long ago with The Real World. I may lead a dull and boring life, but I can't and won't bring myself to ever watch this crap they call reality.
