I have the feeling that whichever democrat wins this election is going to go down in a ball of flames. It will be much like Carter's election based on the sheer distrust of the republican party in the 70's. With the economy up and down, the proposal of tax hikes, more gov't funded programs(medical), weak dollar, global economic shifts, and the resolve on what to do in Iraq, this president will get steam rolled. So the next great President will be in 2012. Hopefully A Reagan Reincarnate.

2017 is the estimated date when Social Security starts dipping into reserves they don't have. What's there is a pile of IOUs from past Congresses. Those guys made out like bandits...Always one step ahead of us.

Should the next one be a presidential joke, the 2012 president will inherit an aging and bitter baby boom generation who will definitely raise hell to get their gov. checks sent on time. It'll be a presidency run on hope because the last time I checked, hoping is free .

The problem facing the president today is very complex and hard to solve for many reasons. You can not have someone who can not fully grasp the concept in charge. Bush is someone who does not fully understand the problem but have fixed notion of how things should be according to his beliefs. You need someone who is flexible enough to adjust his/her views as situations dictates.

Every Congressional Republican is committed to that sentiment.

I disagree with the original poster. GWB is the Republican version of Jimmy Carter, and we all know what happened after that. A Democrat will be elected in 2008 because of the last 8 years of ineptitude. If it Hillary Clinton, she will become the first female President in US history, putting us on a par with Great Britain, Germany, and all of the other countries that have had female leaders. It will be a giant step in restoring America's image in the world. Sure there will be haters, but there were lots of haters during Reagan's two terms as well. I just wish her last name wasn't Clinton, because I have a problem with two families running this country for 26 years. The Republicans will lose their majority in both houses of Congress as well, making it much easier for the Democrat president to get things done.

    Flexible enough? Think of Hillary.

Fortunately for all of us, our Mayan brothers and sisters have already let us know that the world will be ending in December 2012.

Yeah. Apparently Nostradamus backed it up with his "lost book." I learned that on the History Channel the other day. So I'm maxing out credit cards on booze and whores until judgment day. Then at the last minute I plan on receiving total conciousness on my deathbed, thanks to my effort as a good caddy for the Dalai Lama. Big hitter, the Lama.

Well it's true that the mayan calendar stops in 2012. Of course, they "stopped" a long time ago.

But the post is really more about me being a dork than anything of real importance.

To even think about Hilary Clinton in the same thought as Margaret Thatcher is laughable.

Every administration from this point forward (for a half-century, at the least) will go down in flames - we've, as a country, started our downward tumble.

Which is to say, every seeming political change is going to end up not changing much of anything for the average American - so, more accurately, we're going to continue going down in flames with each new major-party president, but they'll be just fine - they get paid well, the bi-partisan system can't be changed because the two parties have too much power and too much motivation to let that happen, and they'll continue to adulterate the system to benefit themselves and others they come into contact with on a regular basis in their circles.

    They're different from us now.

so did my 7 year old. we had to have a talk. and apparently one of his friends at school saw it too. so they convinved one another they had 5 years to live.

by the way...that show was so one-sided in it's approach. it glossed over all the questions without bringing enough skeptics out to point out where it falls short. every "expert" was a nostradamus convention-goer.

    sorry for the derail.

Not as laughable as bush claiming he's Winston Churchill.

At least you have a valid, substantive reason to hate her.

    I agree.

    (Though probably for opposite reasons.)
