I'm finally realizing that the writing's on the wall. Although I'm a big supporter of Rudy T, it is becoming apparent that he is most likely going to be fired after this season. The uproar amongst the fans is just too strong, and Les Alexander is just not patient enough to wait this thing out. Les wants star power, and he wants the fans to be behind the team. Unless things make a drastic turn for the better by the end of this season, Rudy's done. That being said, while watching last night's game, it struck me. Jordan's retiring this year. Don't you think ANY player or coach would kill to coach this team with Yao on it? I'll bet you if Les dangled the job in MJ's direction, he would stop to consider it. Think about it... 1. Jordan already was considered an assistant coach even when he played for the Bulls. At one point they even said he might take over for Phil after the season and be a player-coach, much like Bill Russell was. 2. Jordan is one of the most competitive people on Earth. Putting him at the helm of a team with this much potential and talent might be too much for him to pass up, especially if he could manage to show up Shaq, Phil Jackson, Kobe, and the Lakers organization in the process. 3. Jordan is probably the only guy that could step into this organization and, from day one, command the ultimate respect. I believe that the players love Rudy T and respect him to the utmost. Bringing in a Jeff Van Gundy or a Mike Fratello or some other coach would not "sell" the players immediately on the idea of Rudy being gone. But, bring in MJ --- that's instant credibility. Anyway, it's most likely just a pipe-dream. But, would be an unbelieveable change for the Rockets. If Rudy has to go, then go for the top, and bring in MJ. Coaches don't count against the salary cap. And, think about it -- new arena, MJ as coach, Yao in his second season. The Rockets would be the new rock stars of the NBA and would be selling out every arena on Earth.
Yeah, I know it's virtually impossible. But, you all know I'm a big Rudy T fan so I'm just dreaming, baby.
