I'm watching the Jobs keynote address at Macworld now talking about iPhoto - damn, how cool! This new stuff is ridiculous especially considering the new G4's are going to be under $1700 and the new iMac (<b>1 GHZ PROCESSOR</b>) is under $1800!!!
If you think the iMac is cool, you won't believe iPhoto. It is absolutely UNREAL. Not only can you organize, edit and distribute photos (even for advanced users of Photoshop like me, the organization of this thing is un-freakin-believable), but you can print easily or even order prints directly including 20x30 posters ($20) and hard-bound photo books to ship to friends and relatives (less than $30). The analyst on Tech TV from Fortune Magazine called it "one of the most impressive applications" he'd ever seen. Oh, my!!!
If Mac's get any more affordable... I may have to buy one... If Jobs/Apple/Mac was smart, they would compete on a more head-to-head level with MicroSnot... people are slowly getting the picture about MicroSnot products and with this new XP registration BS, Jobs/Apple/Mac could fill the void for those that don't want to deal with the way MicroSnot operates?!? I just wish Jobs/Apple/Mac would come out with the sub $1000 deal.... rH
They are showing it off right now on TechTV as well. It's about a 10 minute delay from the live show on www.apple.com. TechTV is ch 210 on TW digital cable. OS
PS They are updating the products page on the Apple site as we speak, er, type. Hmmmm, I wonder what new product they are adding?? They just said it will sell for $1299. os
They won't even need to run any ads with the free pub they are getting from the likes of Time and the rest of the media that will be jumping on the bandwagon. OS
Here's the basics 10.5" base Built-in OSX 15" flat screen 700mhz G4 128MB 40GB hard drive CDRW $1299 700mhz G4 256 MB ram 20GB hard drive Combo Drive - Plays CD's and DVD's - BURNS CD's! $1499 800mhz G4 256 MB ram 60GB hard drive Super Drive - PLAYS AND BURNS BOTH CD's AND DVD's!!!!!! $1799!!!!! -- saving money now ---
Just to add... 56K moden Ethernet 2 USB ports 2 Firewire ports All built in to back of machine. The base is only slightly larger than a CD jewel case and contains the DVD drive in the front.
You gotta smile when these Mac folk get excited over stuff that's been out for months/years. That's one funky design, but I likes. Now if they could make a mouse with more than 0 buttons, I'd be a happy camper. I can't stand not being able to right-click!!! God bless 'em... GO APPLE!!!!
My G4 mouse has no buttons (technically the whole mouse is a button). I have proof. And I'm still pissed that there are no removable format drives that come with these things (ok, so don't call it a floppy!)
I agree that removable media is a good thing to have, but a CD/RW works fine if a bit slow. Just pick up an external Zip for $250 if you need it. Ultimately, though, I almost never have to move anything that I can't move either via the internet. When I do, it is usually because it is too big and that just burns onto a CD anyway. What I like is that I can sell off my iMac Special edition DV and my external CD/RW for the $1799 version and not have to spend more than $1000 total. Also, just back up my OS 9.2 system onto my external iomega hard drive and load it up in the 9.2 that is on the new iMac and, BOOM, I have my whole older hard drive and all the applications with no muss, no fuss. -- still saving money --
