My wife got her copy of InStyle for the month with a picture of Michelle Pfeiffer on the cover. Now, she has always been thin but calling her gaunt might be an isult to guantness. So, my wife says, "It's her husband that's the problem." Of couse, Pfeiffer is married to David E. Kelley, producer of such waif-friendly shows as Ally McBeal. That got me to thinking. Are all of his shows like this? Marriage - overly skinny Michelle Pfeiffer - she was never THIS thin Ally McBeal - Calista Flockheart - she was always skinny, but she's become the poseter child for malnutrition The Practice - Lara Flynn Boyle - what the hell happened to her? She was downright attractive in Twin Peaks. The mystery deepens. Boston Public - Jessalyn Gilsig - the female lead starting to look VERY skinny. In deference to Kelley, he did hire Jeri Ryan. Let's hope he doesn't turn her to skin and bones. Chicago Hope - Christine Lahti - always a very thin woman LA Law - Susan Dey - the original skinny tough lawyer who just happened to also be a Partridge. Now, for the REALLY wierd part. I think he is trying to balance the scales (all puns intended) with overweight women in his shows now. Examples: The Practice - Katherine Manheim Boston Public - Loretta Divine So, just what is the deal with David E. Kelley and really skinny women?
I dunno but I like the Practice. Lara Flynn Boyle is so freakin hot. And I like that secretary chick too.
Surely rooting for a bad basketball playing Rocket's team can't be any worse than delving into important subjects like this?
Pole: from my thread in the Rockets forum... Sorry for the outburst. I got settled down and I feel better. Fact is, a friend of mine died the other day and I was feeling pretty awful and thought the Rockets game would cheer me up. It didn't. Anyway, no fairweather fan here. I'm still watching. As for this, I just found it interesting.
maybe he has a "skinny" clause in his contracts?? if you want to be in his movies, tv shows... you have be a certain weight? and now maybe he's added a "fat" clause?? dunno... i don't even watch those shows... rH
no offense, but david kelly hasn't exactly cornered the market on skinny women -- ever watch friends? will and grace? any show on the wb? mtv? there aren't a lot of full-figured women running around the television dial these days...
You're so right about this! I received the all the Twin Peaks videos as a Christmans present... and she was really cute back then! Now she looks sort of frightening... ...incidentally, watching Twin Peaks again just made me that much more angry that they never made a movie to reveal the ending!
There is a difference, however, between Ally McBeal and the rest. I totally agree that thin women are the norm, but Flockheart is like an anorexic.
not much -- debra messing has the body of a 12-year old boy... should i have posted that? i continue to be amazed how already thin women are actually getting thinner, messing included. cox and anniston are rails (anniston used to be cute and much fuller -- watch a first season rerun; now she's a stick), i see ads for that jessica alba show when watching 24, and she's somehow lost weight. and don't forget -- the camera adds 10 pounds. (and, as a former TV producer, it really, actually does.) calista's heinous. i keep expecting flies to be circling her head while sally struthers cries in the background everytime i see her.
