    Maurice, The Victim

    On the NCAA's policies:
"How can [the NCAA] be making money off somebody else and not giving anything to them? And when somebody is trying to get something to help themselves to get into school, to help their family while they're in school, how can you fault them for that?''

On players skipping college for the NBA:
"If you look at anybody that can play nowadays, coming out of the top 20 to 25 (high school players), they look at college as a pit stop,'' Taylor said. "Even if they look at college, the first thing you hear is: `I've got to make a better situation for my family.' Going to college is not making that happen. At the max, it's four more years of struggling.''

    Maurice, The Saint

On borrowing $105,000 from Michigan booster Eric Martin, who pled guilty to laundering money:
"I'd never call him a criminal. He's the guy that's always nice and cordial toward me. Me taking something from him, I can't call him a criminal. It's a chapter in my life that's closed.''

    On his NBA drug-related suspension:
"I'm as embarrassed about this situation as anybody. I'm not the type of guy to have something like this happen."

    Maurice, the Team Player

On a team meeting to discuss marketing, the new arena and community efforts:
"At first, we were here because we had to be," forward Maurice Taylor said. "After he started talking, we started understanding why we were here and more things we could do to be more involved with the business aspect of the team. It was interesting. There was a lot to learn."

On being asked to watch videotapes of Yao Ming:
"Especially veteran guys look at tapes and say, `Why are you giving me a tape of a rookie? We'll see him at training camp,' " Rockets forward Maurice Taylor said. "But it was important for us in this situation. No one knew what he could do, or anything about him. Giving us the tapes let us know what he can do. Once we saw the tapes, everyone on our team looked at him in a different light."
