Okay, I've been thinking a lot about which white rapper I think has done more and is most important. I think it is between three people. The beastie boys, eminem, and Kid Rock. The beastie boys were the pioneers. eminem probably has the most respect in true rap circles. kid rock seems to be more of an artist than both of them and has been able to traverse all genres of music. I am a kid rock fan myself, simply because he is always pushing the bounds of his music.

The beasties have been playing their own instruments for years, and their most recent album is all instrumental. So, not only are they pioneers, but I'd argue that they are more of an artist than kid rock.
I definitely say that they give Kid Rock a run for his money. But Kid Rock can play just about any instrument, he can sing, he's a top notch dj, he fuses country, rock, rap, and everything in between. He is a bad man.
My brush with greatness: I met and later played a round of golf with their original dj "DJ White Knight". He was a cool guy. I often wonder what he is doing now.
Well, if that's true than they are equal. Except they've been doing it longer! Seriously, if he does, that's cool, too. I know on tour he had a band, so I didn't realize he played his own stuff. I've seen Beasties in concert several times playing their own guitars, drums, etc. I do like Kid Rock, so I'm not trying to disrespect him or anything. But, I'd still go with the Beasties with Em a close second.
Yeah, it's hard to play drums, guitar, and other crap while on stage unless you are that guy from Mary Poppins. I don't like Kid Rock. I bet Beasties are in the lead.
I'm not voting til Manny gives his take, and fattyfat tell us that it's not 80s music, and post 22 youtube clips.
Beastie Boys in a landslide. Licensed to Ill has the classics but Paul's Boutique is thier masterpiece. <object width="375" height="305"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hy5iQubfV5s&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hy5iQubfV5s&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
