New rule: you can't burn a book until you've taken the time to read it. Even then, I'll point and laugh at you if you burn it.
ATW what are your thoughts if you have gotten a chance to read this article, so many I have read have questions inherently the teachings of islam and so on, I am curious maybe of your thoughts on the article
I think it's still harsh to the Quran and completely ignores the more relevant issue of Hadith and its equivalents. In Hadith scripture, there are several instances of unusually violent behavior from the Prophet. There are also several errors and mountains of contradictions with the Quran. I say burn the books. Many muslims need to learn a lesson about how: 1) It does not affect your relationship with God. 2) People should be legally free to do so. In this case, I sometimes wonder if the lessons learned from burning the book would be more valuable than the artificial, hollow respect shown by the pastor.
exactly, jon jon, I don't get it, even in your point mathloom. As far hadiths go, if you study the history behind them, they are entirely man made and arguable, some sects believe certain hadiths, disregard other hadiths, so techincally just some of them are accepted widely, but if you trace down to where the source is, they are all 3-4th and usually more persons in between tehe prophet saying them etc. Just like sharia law they are manmade as are the 5 pillars which are supposedly from a hadith but its also more than 3 persons seperated from hearing from the actual prophet. Not saying they arent true, but I am not saying they don't have the actual certainty of the quran which in itself you will see many lost of translations. Since it was not actually written down and organized till way after the prophets death. Thus depending on who is writing them and their agenda since after the prophet, the power became an issue and everyone wanted to unify things under them, and the best way to do so was to claim it was god's message. So its gets awfullly complicated. This is is inappropriate and inaccurate to say Islam itself says something since it is merely an abstract idea, it is the people who twist, bend, and interpret it for whatever the agenda is, pure or not. This is why an islamic country centuries ago like the spanish moors for that time era could've been progressive, tolerant, about advancement in the sciences and other fields and have people of all faiths live amongst eachother freely which was not common then. Then have some sort of taliban rule and lcaim its there sharia law or the highway. Did the religion or scriptures change? no just the situation of the people and the people interpreting and infusing their own agenda into it.
He's trolled in many threads. Are you really inviting him to troll in this one too? Anyway, since you want his response, I'm gonna let you in on this. When good points are made and ATW's started twisted rhetoric is ineffective, he'll have to go through a lot of blogs to try to counter them with new nonsensical logic. So I'm sure he'll rear his ugly head in here soon.
I understand, but for me its always important to hear the point of views of opposition or people that I do not agree with. That is the only way I can learn and bridge gaps or atleast try to come to an understanding and see the roots of other's issues. That said this is a message board, he is intellectual and instead of seeming to accept or learn some of this parts it seems he has his opinion on the religion itself and its not changing no matter what because of his prior experiences or perception, so although that is simply unfortunate, if it is dialogue adn not arguing and insulting, I am always curious to learn more. Its unfortunately not always that route though in the board clearly.
I have a question for any American muslims on this board does it upset you when muslims from other countries burn the American Flag.
maybe if you are stuck on a island or some isolated place and you are freezing your butt off and you need something to burn
I read all of the Twilight books (yeah I know you know how you know I'm gay) and I truly feel they should be burned.
I just think its idiotic, I know first and foremost they must not be education and the clash is not between the west and islam, or christianity and islam, its a clash of ignorances, and that is apparently from both sides of misconceptions. I've said it before, this dangerous ignorance of cultural and religious illiteracy is dangerous as it dehumanizes people. Its happening on both sides and its alarming. Like I said I think its idiotic and I think its a lack of education, what I did not expect to see it as much in America as I would have seen it. I am born and bred American and I also consider myself a devout muslims. I love and am proud of both and consider myself patriotic and they certainly don't conflict infact the lessons and mentality I learn in my religion about tolerance, etc has supported the original fabric that America was built on too, I am certainly proud of both.
Is it wrong? Yes. Does it upset me? No, why let those loons raise my blood pressure. They're lookin for attention, why give it to them? They would move to U.S. in a heartbeat if offered. They get nothing from burning the flag except for your attention and a chance to piss you off. They're like internet trolls minus the internet.
Is it wrong? Yes. Does it upset me? Yes. If you were to ask does burning of a Bible upset me...you would get the same answer. Change it to a flag and I don't really care.
As I wrote in my rep comment to your post, I feel that you are a lot more sincere and non-aggressive in your posts than Qazi, hydhypedplaya, vlaurelio and people like that. While I might not believe in what you believe, I appreciate that I feel you are honest and willing to have a dialogue. As to the article, to be honest, I have been traveling and tried to read it (have had the tab open for a while) but could not really concentrate. I will try to re-read it now and will comment in a bit.
