Is anyone else into The Mars Volta? Their new single, The Widow, is one of the best songs I've heard in a long, long time.

Can't wait for their new album, Frances the Mute, out 1Mar05.

You can listen to most of the single here, The Widow eCard link.

I like them. Not as much as ATDI since they were pretty special to me, but still good stuff.

The new album is good, but hard to sit through in one listen.

If were going to talk about bands that came out of At the Drive In, Sparta blows the Mars Volta out of the water, just never been a big fan of them.

I always kinda liked At the Drive In, but I felt that something was holding them back. They just couldn't seem to get their more experimental ideas across the way they seemed to want.

When Mars Volta came out, I realized what had held them back: the douches in Sparta.

I d/led a torrent of Frances the Mute about a month ago and listened to a track before heading out to drink or something... and I haven't been able to find the files since. The one song I heard sounded great, though.

Yes, I would concur with the Sparta blowing part.

Man, Napoleon Solo is one of my all time favorite songs.

I was so scared that ATDI would go mainstream when I saw a "One Armed Scissor" video on MTV a few years back.

I may have cried when I heard they split. But Mars Valta has semi-filled that crater in my life that ATDI made.

I'm a HUGE Mars Volta fan, and I agree with this statement wholeheartedly!

Sparta is a waste of a band; not even comparible to TMV.

I downloaded Frances the Mute a while back and STILL can't quit listening to it every night. They friggin' JAM in concert, too. And I mean jam...as in turning their 6 minute tune into a 20 minute ride. I love it.

    Try here...

    http://divelsfoot.com/

You have to sign up first, but this site is trustworthy. It's a person from the Tool Army forum who hosts this site. Sign up, then click into the Gallery and search away. There's all kinds of rare music, concerts, videos, etc. from a mix of different bands. I downloaded TMV the day it was leaked from this place.

If any of you guys are Tool fans, check out the live concerts they have uploaded. It's gold!

Both bands (Sparta, TMV) don't even come close to matching the energy and ferocity of ATDI. I saw Sparta in concert a couple years ago...weak show. Mars Volta on the other hand, jams too damn much...if I wanted 40 minute jams I will listen to Phish.

I had big big hopes for TMV right after ATDI broke up...had downloaded some songs from their Tremulant EP, and was very excited to hear the CD. Too bad it's overproduced...their music simply isn't supposed to be that shiny. The day I bought Deloused in the Comatorium was one of the most disappointing (musically) days of my life.

I'm gonna give the new one a try though, hopefully it won't be watered down like Deloused.

I just about near TORE THE DAMN HOUSE APART when I lost my De-Loused CD over the winter break (found it the day before I came back to school, thank GOD!). So Yeah, I freaking love The Mars Volta. I've got the new album from a friend and surprisingly haven't listened to it yet (I'll definetly buy a copy when it comes out) so I'll have to take a listen later tonight. :)
