It seems that from the preliminary stuff i've been reading here and elsewhere the Rockets Fans and management are high on Gasol, but do we really have a chance to sign him away from Memphis considering he is a restricted FA ? Discuss

Small market team with some hefty contracts (Gay, Conley, Zbo), they're going to have to make some tough choices. Gasol could be one of them. Never know until we give them a call and try.

No, rumors are already out there of a Gay for Ellis swap.

This is a clear sign Memphis intends to save money in other areas.

That would be a dumb trade team chemistry and player fit wise, and is Ellis in a contract year? I thought he was on the books for a few more years.

Look, Memphis is a very small market not making money.

They cannot pay Gasol/Randolph/Conley/Gay/ 60 million dollars, which is what they are about to commit too. The new Penalties will absolutely rape them.

If they match Gasols max contract a Gay for Ellis swap makes sense because they save a bunch of money for a mostly equivalent player. It gives them a shot at keeping Mayo.

Chemistry has no bearing here. The Grizzlies were worse with Gay on the floor and had thier playoff success without him.

Frankly he isnt a very good player.

Mmm, I think Gay's a good player, but he has some shortcomings, and certainly can be replaced. And that contract? Blarf. Max-money or near.

As far as Marc Gasol, we ain't getting him. When Memphis has to choose between the two, they'll trade Gay and keep the player who helped them tear through the playoffs (Gasol). Washington would be a good destination. (From Memphis's $$$ P.O.V., any team who'd make the trade would be a good destination.)

The Rockets aren't even talking about trying to get him, so I'd say it was impossible.

Bima help me out here, but if you think Memphis might not match and want to test that theory, we'd have to renounce Hayes, the MLE, and the Battier TPE, possibly forego signing a couple of rookies, and amnesty cut Thabeet just to get enough cap space to sign Gasol to a tender offer. And, if we're wrong and Memphis does match, we end up with no Gasol, no Hayes, no Thabeet (boo-hoo), and no TPE -- just a bunch of cap space to compete with a dozen other teams to overpay for the services of second-rate almost-stars. Oh, and we're 3 days behind those other teams in the chase too.

Wouldn't say "Everyone is in love with Gasol"

But as you can see in this photo, he is a restricted Free Agent.

    SnT Marc Gasol Possibilty?

    Bill Ingram – 12/01/2011 12:00pm EST

One of the more intriguing situations to watch over the next couple of weeks will be what happens with Marc Gasol in Memphis. A number of NBA execs have told HOOPSWORLD that Gasol is the only “max” player in this year’s free agency class, and as a restricted free agent he is the Grizzlies’ to lose. That said, sources close to the situation say that Gasol does not want to be back in Memphis despite their surprising success last season and their prospects of being even better with Rudy Gay back in the mix. Grizzlies management say they won’t re-sign Gasol unless he wants to be there, but is that really true? Will they really let the best free agent in the class walk away?

Smarter money says the Grizzlies work a sign-and-trade is they decide not to keep Gasol themselves. So think about the teams with significant assets to offer in trade, which would seem to put the Houston Rockets squarely in the front of the discussion. The Rockets have a plethora of front court players to offer in a potential sign-and-trade, something not many teams can say.

He said that if he won't get 9 million deal he would travel back to Europe.

Exactly. Memphis and Houston will never make a trade with each other!

How about trading for chris paul(or Rondo?) and then SnT marc gasol and the rest of our assets to the magic for Dwight Howard. Probably won't work but is similar to the Celtics Big 3 formation.

I like the idea of a SnT for Gasol. It probably doesn't take a lot to get him over and definitely no starters. Maybe Dragic + Hill + Knicks First Rounder for Gasol gets it done. Resign Hayes to back up and we have a great team.

    Lowry/Flynn
    Martin/ Lee
    Bud/Morris / TWill
    Scola/ Patterson
    Gasol/ Hayes/ Thabeet

I think that team would be good enough to compete for home court and possibly make a run.
