I'm writing a book about Man Caves. It's called The Man Cave Book. Does anyone here have a Man Cave? (I remember a while back someone posted a sweet pic of a Rockets shrine -- that counts.) Any thoughts about Man Caves? What makes a good one? Does it cause problems with relationships? How much did it cost? How long did it take to create? (And if anyone feels strongly about this subject, or is an expert, or wants to contribute, I'd love to interview you offline if you want to be in the book.) ...Also... even if you don't call the lair the admittedly-preposterous-sounding title "Man Cave," if it's a place all your own that you take pride in and fill with masculine stuff, yeah, that counts. So who's got a Cave?
my dream... a flat panel TV in the bathroom. I do have my Garage with is my little workshop. I need a TV in there though.
Just a suggestion, I'm an avid reader of a poker forum @ http://pokerforum.twoplustwo.com. Seeing how it's full of online (and live) poker professionals that are part of a culture that glorifies material wealth, I would make a similar thread in the "Brags, Beats, and Variance" forum. There is already a thread detailing some of the sweet computer setups that the online guys have. Be aware, the posters over there can be an extremely aggressive and sarcastic bunch, but it's worth a shot..
Haha....mine too! I had a quaint, little man cave back in the day. Nothing fancy just a TV and two recliners. It was a spare bedroom that I converted for watching Rockets' games. I've lived alone (or had relatives living with me for free) for the past few years so my whole house was basically a man cave. I even took the furniture out of my living room and put a pool table in and mounted a tv on the wall. That was cool. I'll be moving in with my gf in a few months and already told her that her spare room will be my man cave (because I need my "me time"). Again nothing fancy. I'll stick a flat screen on the wall and put a couch and my computer in there. Woohoo! I can finally watch Rocket games and surf clutchfans at the same time again!
This has to be the easiest dream in the world to accomplish. Go spend $200-300 bucks on a small flat panel and a mount.
My "man cave" would consist of a home recording studio and a lot of instruments. Doesn't have to be a place where you just chill and do nothing, could also be a place where you try to do/learn something that you have always wanted to, but didn't have the $$$ or the space.
I had the man cave basement all finished with wet bar, tv, couch, my office, bathroom, and workshop/garage attached. Then my wife had to put her office down there too. Not a man cave anymore.
you said something about a Rockets shrine.... I got more stuff since the picture but it's a work in progress.
Nice. But I can give credit for being a source, quote you, etc... Reekho_HTown - very cool, thanks for sharing. SirCharlesFan - thanks for idea. We're working with a guy who runs a website about this stuff, so there's a huge well of volunteers already, but always like to get input from Clutchfans... (This website is my injection of sanity. And that's a scary thought.)
I guess my Man Cave would be my computer room, which is also my sports room. Have multiple displays set up to watch tv, pc, game etc..... Also, the walls are covered with sports/bar stuff, like tin "posters"/signs for Miller and the Texans etc.... It's my place to get away I guess, I have a hooka set up in there too.
I don't have a man cave, unfortunately, but I was at a wedding shower at this guy's house in Bellaire who's father owns a bunch of auto dealerships in town, and he had the ulimate man cave. Three car garage conversion. He had two couches, a custom built full mahogoney (SIC?), fully stocked bar, three giant flatscreens and a giant poker table.
I'm working toward this end - I'm already well on the way with all the musical equipment. Now, I've started the whole house-hunting endeavor and I'm making sure that there will be one room completely dedicated to musical instruments and recording equipment.
Since it's that easy...do you have a couple hundred bucks I could borrow? I'm hoping to get a hdtv sometime this year for the room. I've got my man cave with a tv, playstation, my computer and a couch. Also have my sports stuff in it and my beer stein collection. One of these days, I will get around to painting it. I'm still debating between brick and sand or steel blue (my study at our last house was this color).
This thread has Al Bundy written all over it. This place opened a few months ago here in Vegas...haven't checked it out (as I don't smoke)...but looks like an interesting hangout... http://www.mancavecigarlounge.com/
Awesome thread. I was planning on posting something similar soon. I bought a new house in September with a detached garage that had been converted into a huge 400-sq ft room complete with drywall and electricity (no plumbing but guys don't need that). I painted it a neutral taupe color before Christmas and put nice pergo laminate in that I pulled out of my house when I installed wood floors. We moved a bed and put couches, a microwave and old fridge in there over Christmas and the in-laws stayed there. Anyway, it's my future man-cave. Since I lost all of my man-crap in Ike, I've been looking around for decoration. My goal for the place is that I'm not going to spend much on anything and try to get everything free. So I am going to get everything at garage sales, goodwill, or craigs list. I think in a good man-cave, you need: 1. Large TV 2. Sports memorabilia 3. Some kind of arcade setup, such as a MAME cabinet, pool table or a pinball machine (I plan on having all 3). 4. Some kind of beer dispensing area. I'm planning on putting a beer keg tap kit in the fridge. 5. Random man crap. Think Hooters decoration or frat house. 6. Comfy place to sit for hours drinking and watching man stuff. I'm sure you've seen ManCaveSite.org. Check out their gallery of man caves. Awesome stuff. Lastly, Man Cave Law (spoilered for size): Spoiler Wrong: Spoiler
