Will be in theaters tomorrow night, at midnight. Who has tickets? Also... I just noticed the similarity to the third Star Wars movie, Return of the Jedi. Lucas ripping off Tolkien?
I've got a ticket for Tuesday night, can't wait. I have a friend who is really hardcore though, he's going to watch the whole trilogy at the Edward's Imax on Katy Freeway. Even if I could have gone, I don't think I would have, that's just too much time to spend on my ass. Hell, ROTK is gonna be 3 hours and 20 minutes itself.
so far people are saying that for the most part this is the best movie out of the three. personally i like the first 2 books the best.
No way. This book is at least 10 times better than the first two, which I thought were mediocre. This book is so amazing in so many ways. The ride of the Rohirrim, Minas Tirith, Imrahil - Prince of Dol Amroth the best minor character in the trilogy, Aragorn being a badass, etc. Course I know Jackson will dissapoint. Oh well, I got my tickets for tomorrow night. Going with a grip of friends all back from college. It's like a tradition.
maybe i need to read them over again. i read them when i was really young. maybe my attention span was too short or something.
Nomar, I personally look forward to yet another scathing review and one more rant about how Peter Jackson dropped the ball. I'm so f***ing psyched about this movie right now. I've got tickets to the 6:15 showing next Saturday, and I plan to get there AT LEAST an hour ahead of time to get good seats. (If you've never seen a movie in NYC, you have to get to any movie showing no less than 20 minutes before in order to get a seat, let alone a good one...) Last year, we (wifey and I) were second in line to get into the theater. I hope to improve on that showing this year. Currently, after 21 reviews, ROTK is sitting at a masterful 100% on RottenTomatoes.com. For comparison, Fellowship of the Ring garnered 94% (with 181 total reviews) and The Two Towers topped out at 98% (201 total reviews).
Just wouldn't be that time of year without a PJ bashing by me. Also, I have lost all faith in Rottentomatoes after Last Samurai received a most underwhelming rating. Everybody, go see Last Samurai - Movie of the Year without a doubt, and if ROTK or Mystic River beats it out for the Oscar I will boo lustily.
IMO, the third book kicks the other two's asses bigtime...but I wouldnt go so far as to call them mediocre..I enjoyed them also. The third one has all the great battles, the heartbreaking struggle of Sam and Frodo to get to Mt Doom...and the purging of the Shire as an ending. I love the whole series, and it kills me to have to wait till after the opening weekend to see the conclusion..but I never go see a blockbuster on opening weekend..just too many people jammed into to a small space for me to be comfortable.
NO kidding. Here in College Station there is only one theatre, so the big name movies are usually booked for the first week of viewing. I had to wait like 4-5 days to see the Matrix Revolutions (which I thought sucked after all the hype). I loved the original and reloaded was good...but....oops off topic again...sorry.
How can you blame Rotten Tomatoes for the rating on Last Samurai? All they do is post reviews from the same reviewers and a average them out.
It wouldn't be Christmas season without another fanboy Nomar thread both trumpeting the arrival of a LOTR movie and, sight unseen, simultaneously bashing it as falling short of his ideal. Lord of the Rings remains my favorite book(s) and I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two movies. I'm excited about watching the final movie and yet sorry that there won't be any more after this. It's truly an epic story in every sense, and it's so cool to see someone attempt to capture its intricacies on the big screen. At 210 minutes, hopefully they've left nothing out of this one.
Man, I am so pumped up for this movie. I read the books, I love them. They are my favorite books by far. I love the movies too, Peter Jackson (IMO) has done a good job with films. I can't wait for this movie, the only thing that upsets me is that it's the final one. Damn....Tolkien rocks!
There's already a couple of major scenes that have been cut entirely. More material for a 4+ hour extended version hopefully.
I went to go see freaking Love Actually a full 3 weeks after it came out, and I STILL couldn't get a seat 20 minutes before the movie started. I hate NYC. Back to the topic at hand, does anyone have the soundtrack to ROTK? It kicks all sorts of ass. I didn't think Howard Shore had it in him...
Thought I would add some fuel to the fire by stating that I think the removal of the Scouring of the Shire was a great decision by Peter Jackson. It would have made for terrible cinema.
