This is the movie that Christians were protesting. It's a Scorsese film from around 15 years ago. Personally, I found it an interesting movie and I liked it. It's on Bravo Saturday at 7:00 PM.
Excellent movie. Never understood why it was picketed (primarily by people who hadn't seen it). Personally I found The Passion to be much more offensive.
An interesting interpretaion; once showed it to a World Religions class, but have to admit that later had to correct a few students who started recalling events in the film as though they were Biblical truths.
I thought it was kinda boring, actually. I loved the premise and the idea, but thought it was too laboriously filmed. But it made me think, and that's probably the best thing a film like that can do. I'll probably watch it again Saturday.
The best Jesus movie ever made, but only by virtue of casting Harvey Keitel as Judas. Do you remember him? He was absolutely hilarious. "Hey Jesus. Me and the guys were hangin on Flatbush, you knowwhada mean? And these Roman goombas come drivin by real slow like, right?" Total Brooklyn Judas = Best Jesus Film ever.
LOL, that Brooklyn accent cracked me up. Thankfully I was able to look past that casting mistake and thought it was a very good movie. 2 thumbs up
See, if I could sit down and talk film with someone for an hour, it'd probably be him. But I usually dont enjoy his films; not that they're not well directed, but we have no mutual empathetic touchstones, he and I. His gangster films creep me out, his homages to NYC leave me cold, and his other stuff usually stands out more for their intent than their accomplishment. But the man loves, loves, LOVES movies, and what's more, he knows his stuff.
