Maybe today, trying to draw interest from my friends but it's gonna be hard when one of them thinks this movie is gonna be teh same as Big Momma's House...
I'm sorry, but from the previews, this looks like the worst movie ever. Did Tom Hanks need some extra cash to pay for a new house or something? Seriously...
The reviews haven't been stellar, about 60% of critics are giving it positive reviews, but it is not the worst movie ever. The premise seems very interesting, the problem was probably in the execution, which you can't really tell from just the previews. What makes this the worst movie ever?
well... Fargo-->the big lebowski-->O Brother Where Art Thou-->Intolerable Cruelty-->Ladykillers... I've seen the first four... and it goes something like awesome-->great-->quirky and funny at points-->good here and there but pretty lame-->haven't seen i'm not a calculus expert, but seems to me like d(quality)/dt is negative. that said... i'll try to watch ladykillers when i have some time.
that was them? whoa... i have seen that movie. a long time ago though. it wasn't until around 1995 that I really started loving movies (and had enough money to go to every movie), so I'm no film historian, I've just seen most movies the last ten years. well if that's their best ever, it still doesn't change the direction of the trajectory.
I urge you to get rid of your ignorant friends. Comparing a movie made by The Coen Brothers to Big Momma's House is pure blasphemy. I will put a cap in their a$$es if anything like that comes out of their pieholes again.
i was really looking forward to this then i read my most trusted review from the austin chronicle and it was tepid at best. --->rental.
If the Coen Brothers are involved, it is definitely worth seeing. It will be hard to top the original "Ladykillers", though. Alec Guiness and Peter Sellers were awesome.
It looks really funny, I am looking forward to seeing it. I will make my trip to the theaters next week.
I'm more serious than a heart attack. So what, I'm not "cool" now? Oh well. I'll try to continue living.
Wow dude, chill out. For one thing, when were you ever cool? The reason I posted that was because I could never understand how anyone would think a Coen Brothers movie with one of the best actors of our generation could be the worst movie of all-time...or think that by the previews.
You are forgeting Baton Fink, Blood Simple, and Miller's Crossing. I really want to see Ladykillers. I am hoping that it will make up for Intolerabe Cruelty which i thought was their wost movie.
I saw Barton Fink in the theatres. I can remember how cool I thought the sound was. Hard to explain here, but I just remember the sound of the doors opening and the draft going through. Fargo is my all time favorite movie. I think.
The Coen Brothers are officially gone. I hereby thank them for providing us with the genius in past works such as Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou, Fargo, and Barton Fink. May they rest in peace. Ladykillers is a mess. The writing hits some clever notes, but most of the humor is very repetitive and unoriginal. Yes we get it, Marlon Wayan's character likes to curse. Move on please. Very un-Coen-ish humor. The poster who compared this movie to Big Momma's House isn't too far off. Tom Hanks is simply boring in his role. His character consists of using the thesaurus to bolster each spoken line with ridiculous vocabulary. It's cute at first, but it gets old after five minutes. The rest of the characters are uninspired, and the acting is as well. Part of the genius of the Coens consisted of creating intricate and interesting plots. Ladykillers completely lacks any remnant of that previous skill. Any redeeming features? A few of the camera angles and shots are nice, especially those centered on the bridge. It's not enough to save this disaster of a movie though. Grade: C-
