I'm not religious at all, so forgive my ignorance. Is the Koran the book of Islam? Someone at another site posted alot of violent quotes from the Koran. Were they taken out of context? I can post them here if you want, but I don't think that's a good idea.

Yes the Koran is the book of Islam. The religion is not violent but like any religion people can interpret stuff in anyway they would like it.

The Koran is incredible. Do some research on the history of it. There's just so much about it that is unbelievable.

the quran is the holy book, revealed directly to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from God.

as for interpreting it, there's a few things,

first, u cant just take a verse and run with it on your own interpretation.
when we interpret the quran, we do 3 things,

first, look at other verses of the quran to explain it, then we look at the statements and actions of the prophet, and finally, we look at how the companions of the prophet implemented and practiced and interpreted those verses.

this is one of the beauties of islam, that we've got this method to determine whats right, so we dont misinterpret and run with our own r****ded ideas like these idiots have done.

anyway, any questions, and im sure someone on the board should be able to answer them

jamma34 This will probably sound stupid but who exactly is Muhammad, and from what era did he live? I hate to show my ignorance about your religion, but I was curious to know. Peace

Muhammad is the prophet we believe in, the final prophet. our core belief is basically there is One True God, with no partner, no son, nothing. and we also believe that this is the same message that was brough to abraham, moses, noah, jesus (whom we also believe to be a prophet), joseph, etc. and muhammad is the final prophet clearing up the things that got changed from the other religions over time. time period is about 1,420 years or so ago, i think 570 on our current calendar sounds about right for a period.

DoD.. i gotta get running to class, i just barely skimmed that site, its kinda long! heheh ill try to look at it later but it seemed pretty good.

here's one i know for sure with basic info for nonmuslims with the what is the quran, who is muhammad type information.
