Doesn't it seem like JVG is 180 from last year, complimenting the team, saying nice things, being positive. "I like their fight." "One thing I love about Charlie" "Tracy keeps trusting...passing...I love that" This season we are hearing all the love from coach??!! He seams much more satisfied with the attitude and effort of this squad. I am pretty happy to hear him positive and unified with the team. He has been critical at times, but he seems much more willing to look for the good this season. Last year even when we won he found something wrong to point out.
Well over all JVG has been much more positive this year so far... Its probably becuase this is his hand picked team and he seems to be pleased w/ it
I get the same impression from him... he seems more optmistic about this team and its chances than last years squad even though we had SF3 and Cat5.. I dont know what the difference is maybe someone told him he always looks like a Alcohol Fetal Syndrome Baby on TV to smile and act lil more chipper. hahahaha J
I would hope JVG is more optimistic about this year's team, since he practically handpicked it. It's loaded with the kind of day-at-the-office veterans that he loves. He also seemed to really let his hair down (err... so to speak) during the China trip. He was positively bubbly! I also think there's a tendency for the reporters to jump all over any semi-optimistic JVG quote, since they tend to be somewhat rare. On a side note... can we not quote edc in JVG threads? Even with the ignore list activated, I'm pretty sure we could all guess what he said.
The one thing that I heard this morning on 610 (not from JVG, but from T-Mac) is Tracy was quoted as saying that he isn't concentrating at all on his offense so much because JVG is a defensive minded coach. The part that I loved is that he said (something to the effect of).."I love that he is pushing me to be the defensive force that he thinks I can be. It makes me strive to get better and better on defense, and I love that." The thing that I liked about that is that he is taking JVG's positive energy (if you can call it that) and trying to turn it into a positive for himself. I bet for JVG, that is odd because last year his 'stars' probably tried to buck his system and do their own thing more than they tried to listen to him and learn from him. That probably lead to most of the troubles that JVG had with last years team. This year he has guys that want to be coached, and he has 'stars' that want to be coached too. I think that in the long run the offense that most people hate to watch will get better just because this team will gel the more they play together and learn each other. By game 25 or so, they should be clicking, Bobby Sura will be healthy, and their bench will be a little deeper. When I heard the McGrady quote this morning, the first thing I thought to myself was "Would Steve Francis ever have said something like that?" I seriously doubt it.
Francis basically said the same thing last year, just in a different way. It was something along the lines of, "I didn't know I had the energy to play hard on both sides of the floor."
How long is Van undy under contract? Im not a big fan of his and I would like to see the Rockets with another coach before too long.
