Im currently in negotiations with a guy to buy a 17" iMac G5. It looks like we will be agreeing on a price of about $800 but a concern I have is that he has stated it has a stuck pixel on the screen but that it is common. (below is what he wrote to me) Is this something I should be concerned about?
If it's just one pixel, then no, that shouldn't be a problem. LCDs of that size can have several dead pixels from manufacturing and be considered acceptable. The fact that he's telling you about the pixel may in fact be a sign of his honesty, because I probably wouldn't even disclose something like that because it is so common.
thanks the guy seems sincere and ive talked to him a bit, so i dont think he would screw me over (although you never know these days). is 800 on an iMac a good deal? specs: iMac w/ Applecare till 09/2008 G5 1.8 GHz 17" display 160 GB 512 MB memory Mac OS X Tiger
That sounds kinda expensive considering you can get a new intel mac for $999 which is faster and if you are a student, I think you save 10% if I'm not mistaken.
Do you want the non-Intel one specifically? You could get a similar machine w/ a 1.83 GHZ Core 2 Duo for about $200 more brand new. Less if you're a student too. Of course that wouldn't include the AppleCare.
My 20" has one dead pixel. I almost never notice it and it isn't a big deal. I think the price is a little high though. Search ebay and see what the same model is selling for.
thanks again guys. i thought 800 was a decent price but considering he took out the iSight out of the deal, i havnt been too set on it. btw, im not a student but ill take the student discount if someone wants to buy it for me
