since the D&D thread about the shooting is riddled with politics and mudslinging, thought I’d make a thread here for tracking the hunt.

Hundreds of tips pour in about the massacre in Maine, but the gunman who killed 18 people is still at large

The search for Card could be complicated by his background in combat training. Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserve, law enforcement officials in Maine told CNN.

Katherine Schweit, a former FBI senior official, said Card may have an advantage.

“He’s in his own backyard, and we’re coming into his own backyard to try to find him in a game of hide and seek. He knows what he’s looking for and where he’s going to go,” Schweit told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Thursday.

“He has a plan, and law enforcement has to follow those trails wherever they can find them until he makes a decision to stop. So, if he keeps going, that’s just what we’re facing.”

Isn't this unprecedented? I guess there was the one freeway shooter guy -- the one who set up shop in his car trunk or some weird business -- who eluded capture through his first few killings.

Usually the dude who goes on a rampage kills self or suicides by cop.

Wait they didn't catch him? I quit following it when I saw something about the cops saying they had surrounded his house or something

Didn't the Boston bomber(s) manhunt take a few days?

That is true, yes. He was hiding in a boat or some ****.
Good lord, when you think about this f*ed up century, just starting with 9/11. (not a political statement, but we can all agree it looks like a schnitz-show).

Yep, that’s when Reddit got its first crime case to solve.

Best crazy dude of the century was the Killdozer. Its been all downhill from there. Some of these other guys are seriously lacking in creativity WRT their murder/suicide plots. Nobody's going to top that level of spectacle any time soon. It was Al Cowlings' Bronco combined with demolition derby.

This is the only mass shooter I can think of who just vanished for 48+ hours. Beltway Sniper was unique but in a different way.

The others were all bombers: Boston, Kaczynski (basically a serial killer who chose to use bombs), McVeigh, first WTC, Rudolph...they set their stuff and were gone before it happened.

Wait. Is this un/related to the amazing (well, to me) band called Killdozer?

Pretty sure neither the band nor the 70's movie "Killdozer" had anything to do with it.

Man, I hate small towns for this reason. Too many good ol' buys and corruption. But I still love small towns. Go figure. I can't believe I'd never heard of this story before. That's nuts. It kind of reminded me of this one :
