Okay, I think I'm going to cry. Time to get back to work again. Before I go to the client's site though, I have to go to Trilogy (in Austin) to play w/ their latest software. Anybody down w/ grabbing dinner some night? We should put mugs to our monikers. MadMax will also be making a special appearance to beat me up. So come one and come all. I had to listen to a bunch of Austinite consultants rag on SLC's food & night life for 18 mos.. Show me your great Indian cuisine, show me the culture. Show me, show me. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Achebe (edited September 06, 2000).]
Achebe, I do not live in Austin, but I can tell you that if you are looking for good food (especially Indian!!!!), Austin is not the place. I have relatives there (who are originally from Houston) and they say that Austinites seem to think the food is some of the best you can get anywhere. Well, it isn't. Stay away from any ethnic food, trust me (unless you don't know any better! ) ------------------ Talking to a dead hare about art
I thought Oklahoma was the show me state ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.

rimbaud, One of the Indian guys that I worked with told me the same thing. He did say there was at least one decent "proper" restaurant and that there's also a decent southern Indian place. I've never had dosa before, so I'm pretty amped. It's funny though, that your relatives have the same impression that I do of Austin (and this will be my first time going there): that Austinites seem to be pretty excited about themselves. I've mostly heard wonderful things, though... so I think it should be pretty fun. ------------------
I lived in Austin for a year and it is no different now than it was then. The people are fairly nice if a bit pretentious (well, those in the downtown area anyway) but, despite all the hoopla, their restaurants pale in comparison to Houston. Well, hell, most of the country pales in comparison to Houston. We have more restaurants per capita than any city in the US, so it is no surprise. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com

Achebe, Someone told me that Taj Palace was supposed to be good, though I've never tried it. Jeff is right about restaurants - in terms of variety and quality of ethnic food, Htown has Austin beat, easily. (Just can't get good Vietnamese food here!) But Austin has a much better bar / club scene, IMO, though to be fair it does tend to cater to the college kids for than "adult establishments." ------------------
RM95, Barring any unforseen complications (I just faxed my w-9) I should be in Austin Monday afternoon. Are you guys down w/ going sometime next week? Once I get on the ground we'll be able to better coordinate something, but I'm thinking either Tuesday or Wednesday. Sound good? ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
Sammy, How far is Houston from Austin? An hour? Two? I can't be that close w/o seeing the Compaq. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other

Every city I've visited has had the most restaurants per capita. LOL! I moved to Dallas and I heard they had the most. http://cacr.math.uwaterloo.ca/~dccheung/features/restaurant.html ------------------ Falk that Mo Fo!!!
I'm going to venture a guess that Achebe is coming from India to Austin . Why else would anyone want to go eat Indian cuisine in Austin ? The answer to the question... how far is Houston from Austin...is it depends on how fast you drive...hehe. If you drive really fast 2 1/2 hours...but once you hit the outskirts traffic is a real bummer. I believe I can fly....on I-10 . Smiley overdose . Surf ------------------
Azim, I currently live in SLC, where the snow is white and fluffy, just like all of the people. Mmmmm... Snow. I just sent a broken 1998 FL back to Burton. They called me up and said "what board do you want". My reply, "this year?". Theirs - "yep". ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
Monday would actually be better, if possible. I'll be in Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday. ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com

Freak, you know you're invited man, that should go without saying! Actually, Wednesday is possible for me now as well. ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com
RM95: It sounds like Wednesday is the day. Monday will probably be too busy for me... getting in, cramming on the software and then trying to figure my way around Austin. Sounds good! ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
Oh wait, now you guys have to figure out where we should eat. I eat chicken now, so every place is safe w/ me. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
