I think everybody knows the good things: 1. Rox actually passing inside 2. Yao taking shots 3. Whole team (yes even Moochie) shot better 4. Not as man ISO plays 5. More team chem Now the bad thing is that I think the team still doesn't know how to play with a big man. Sure they ran the offence through Yao, but after they dump it in they don't seem to know what to do. After they dump the rock in to Yao, they should be running to get open (especially after the double team) or cutting to the backet. Instead they just sort of stood around while Yao did his thing. It's basically SF over again, only this time replace wink with the big man. I actually think that this is why Yao missed so many shots today, cuz he doesn't have an open man to pass to and has to take tough shots. He had quite a few shots pretty far from the basket. I think after we learn to play with him then Yao and the whole team will get a lot more open looks.
I agree. Offense should definitely go through Yao. If Yao gets himself in foul trouble or cannot play of course it becomes the Steve and Cuttino Show. But when he's in he's got to be the man.
I know its a bad thing but the same thing use to happen when Dream was in his prime. The guards when pass the ball down low to dream and then the other 4 players just stood and watched Dream go to work.
thought the same thing. there were times Yao was holding the ball looking for a pass and no one was moving or cutting to the basket. Mooch did one time, but overall not much cutting when they cleared out. I would like to see more of this when Yao gets the ball.
Not only do the Rockets seem to stand around when they dump it in to Yao, on some give and go's, I've noticed a 7'5" man slashing to the hole, and the Rocket with the ball not even look to throw him (back) the ball 5ft from the fOOkin hole!!! Yao then steps back OUT of the paint and THEN we jack up a shot. *nice*
Post game Rudy said they were going to work on those plays to get better passing angles and such. Maybe he saw it too...
I noticed the same thing after ball was dumped into Yao - everyone just stood around! Where are the cutters?? Why can't he pass it out to a guard in the corner and then re-post even deeper? Also noticed our inability to get Yao the ball consistently when he was fronted. Guess all these things will come with time. All in all, a spectacular game and real breakout game for Yao and the New Rockets Yao in only 17 games is something special, and can carry us on his shoulders if we simply let him. Dallas Rocket
There was a nice alley oop where Stevie drove to the middle and Yao came baseline for the alley. All you have to do is throw it towards the basket if Yao is cutting and there is a good chance he will deflect it in. He has shown to be good at this.
