    UGGGGHHHH!

What a horrid show! This has to be the most boring, most repetitive piece of crap show I have ever heard on the radio.

Golf was meant to be PLAYED (and played drunk with your friends at that), not watched as a spectator sport and certainly not TALKED ABOUT on the reaking radio for an hour. My God...

It's the same jokes, same 'tips,' same freaking million mentions of the same golfcourses EVERY time.

It's akin to an hour of listening to guys tell fishing stories or reminiscing about their bowling league experiences...

On another note, how far off do 610's ratings drop off when they have to ditch a show to broadcast a Comets game? I understand they are contractually bound to carry those games b/c of the Rockets, but man...

I bet they get more listeners during Matt Jackson's show than they do for the Comets games. Somehow I doubt that many people are sitting there riveted to their radio to find out what's going on in a freaking WNBA game.

I understand what you mean, but it isn't too bad. Dick Harmon's pretty.

I change the radio station everytime the golf hour comes on, it's just not funny at all to me. Their rating have to stink for the comets games, just listen to how many people call in to talk about them. No one cares.

C'mon...it's just one freakin' hour a week. So they have to interrupt Astros trade scenario talk for sixty minutes. Big deal.

I think it is kinda funny when they are just telling stories. Dick can tell some funny stories. But when they used to have people calling in about their swing mechanics and such, that was terrible.

You're right, no big deal - I just switch to 790 for that hour.

Tell me this whole week hasn't been bad with Granato by himself..Lance by himself is listenable, because he brings up a lot of different topics..but this is bad radio. All Astro trade talk, all the time.

I've stopped listening to AM and FM radio since i got XM radio in my new car.

they're pretty smart throwing in the first 3 months free. I would have never activated the service b/c i don't drive enough to pay $12/month for satellite radio.

but with all the selections (MLB play by play, Kornheiser, espn, sporting news, foxsports, and a freakin' all 90s station - MY FAVORITE), i've already signed up for a one year contract.

Well...Lance is entertaining, John is not. I like John as a person, hung out with him a few times, but Lance is the entertaining part of the duo. John is the dead pan, straight man. That is not good by itself.

I honestly think Matt & Adam's show at night is their best thing going. The topics are always varied (boxing to soccer, etc.) and they have the most Rockets talk BY FAR.

It's nice to hear them get animated & argue too. The other shows are lacking a bit in the between-host debate department.

I think that is due to the fact they are younger than anyone else. Plus they don't have any ego either. So they can argue, take shots at each other and it is no big deal. But the worst thing going on 610 has to be Marc and Rich. OMG, that is a horrible show.

But back to the topic at hand - the Golf Hour...

Even IF I was some rabid golf nut, I would objectively recognize the show as useless.

Seriously, they talk up the same 3 local courses every show, the tips they give out are ones that your local putt-putt "pro" could let you in on, and the anecdotes that have anyone recognizable involved have run out. The whole hour is like a massive local in joke between the two golf guys & Granato.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't be out on Wildcat/Black Horse/Redstone this week guys - I'm not getting the joke about "Bobby" shooting an 89 while wearing yellow.

It's just bad, bad, bad radio...

I am a golf fanatic, but that is just bad radio.

If you don't know Charlie Epps and Dick Harmon both work for the Redstone Corp., that owns Blackhorse and Redstone (not Wildcat though for more than a year). Their job is to promote the course and and do the PR work for the Shell Houston Open. So basically what your'e hearing is a one hour commercial. Redstone is a rich and powerful corporation that is mainly in the banking and investment business, their golf ventures are really just a small sideline.

Another thing is that these guys and the pros that work under them are always on the selection boards whenever the Chronicle or someone else is picking "Best Course' or whatever so their guys always win.

The golf business is very incestuous. If you have worked for the right guy or have the right name you almost can't steal too much, screw too many member's wives or be to much of a drunk not to find another job.

It would be awesome if there was a radio subscription, no matter where you are, you can listen to any local radio station crystal clear on your car radio/home stereo, etc. (besides the Net).

Back in the day Harmon would actually take calls and give tips. Then his brother Butch helped make Tiger famous and Dick would gravytrain that every week. Tiger this, Tiger that. Then again, Tiger is what makes golf watchable.

As far as Granato goes, he and Lance together are good, but alone he doesn't have a sense of direction, imo. I don't mind the goofy questions he asked Jon Barry this morning, but he needs a straight man.
