Bush claimed God told him to invade Iraq, Afghanistan: BBC Thu Oct 6, LONDON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush allegedly said God told him to invade Iraq and Afghanistan, a new BBC documentary will reveal, according to details. Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003, the ministers told the documentary series to be broadcast in Britain later this month. The US leader also told them he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said. Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister, said: " President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. 'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.' "And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq...' And I did. "'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God I'm gonna do it'," said Shaath. Abbas, who was also at the meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, recalled how the president told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. "So I will get you a Palestinian state." The series is due to be screened in Britain on October 10, 17 and 24. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/2005100...KbPxA6s0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3ODdxdHBhBHNlYwM5NjQ-
So I guess this should end any and all 'debates' in the future as to whether or not we have a foreign policy inspired by religion. Not smart on Bush's part, because he basically is re-affirming what the terrorists argue: that these wars were waged as a 'crusade' with a religious vision.
Did God also tell him to allow his staff to 1. cook the books on WMD & siphon out negative evidence in an effort to build public support for the war, mass destructing american credibility in the process; 2. allowing his aides and henchman to engage in all manner of illegalities in order to root out any internal opposition thereto and destroy peoples careers; 3. having his aides lie to congress and the public about how cheap and easy the occupation was going to be, in the process of 4. failing miserably to plan for the reconstruction despite an overwhelming amount of evidence from within and without as to the gargantuan nature of the task and the inadequate amount of resources committed to the job and 5. going on an aircraft carrier, stuffing his crotch into a flight suit, and crowing about how the job was done before it had even begun - all of which has resulted in the creation of a massive insurgent movement where none previously existed as well as the deaths of tens, and possibly over a hundred, thousand Iraqis and Americans with no end in sight? If so, I suggest he get a new one who doesn't suck so much, Ahura-Mazda is available....
i think many of us would be willing to forgive dubya's mistakes if he could bring about a credible palestinian state.
This must be a joke, i cannot believe that he said thost thing, because if so he is telling us he hears voices that tells him to kill a lot of people. most people who have that are put in a mad house(sorry I do not know the good english word). And This is the perfect way of getting a real war between religion. I'm berry glad i didn't support the invasion of iraq from the beginning(to bad my government does support it)
The predictable pushback... ------------------ White House denies Bush God claim The White House has dismissed as "absurd" allegations made in a BBC TV series that President Bush claimed God told him to invade Iraq. "He's never made such comments," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. The comments were attributed to Mr Bush by the Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath in the upcoming TV series Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs. Mr Shaath said that in a 2003 meeting with Mr Bush, the US president said he was "driven with a mission from God". Holy war? "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan. And I did, and then God would tell me, George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq... And I did. "'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East. And by God I'm gonna do it.'" Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who attended the meeting in June 2003 too, also appears on the documentary series to recount how Mr Bush told him: "I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state." The TV series charts recent attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from former US President Bill Clinton's peace talks in 1999-2000 to Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip this year. It seeks to uncover what happened behind closed doors by speaking to presidents and prime ministers, along with their generals and ministers. The BBC Two series, Israel and the Arabs: Elusive Peace will be broadcast on Mondays from 10 October at 2100 BST. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4317498.stm
curious that you seem to place such credence in the ramblngs of palestinians who are otherwise bent on the destruction of the only democracy in the region, and their supporters in the bbc, and yet dismiss the whitehouse as "predictable pushback." actually, it's not curious at all- it's predictable.
Well so far those rambling Palestinians haven’t lied to my face. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
You're giving the PALESTINIANS the benefit of the doubt? Wow...I guess that's all we need to know then.
The BBC and the Palestinians both have an agenda. Use your brain here, people - don't just selectively believe anything you wish were true to support your position.
Why are you righties running from this? I would think you would accuse the other side of being anti-religious elitists rather than pretending like it didn't happen. The President has said on more than one occasion how he talks to god and such when making decisions, this is not unusual.
He also said on more than one occasion he doesn't justify any of his actions based on God or religion.
